Perhaps it takes courage to raise children.
― John Steinbeck
“What did we do before we had kids?”
I typically ask my husband this question as I quietly collapse on the couch after a long day of work, play, and household chores. I have brief recollections of my husband and I watching the latest movie release in theaters on Friday nights or enjoying a leisurely home cooked meal after work. But to be honest, I don’t really remember much about how we filled the time. Our lives are definitely busier these days, but we’re so much happier…we’re complete.
I’ve never really been great at keeping a set routine and prefer to live each day as an impromptu of sorts. However, having my son start Kindergarten this year has helped us all establish more of a regular schedule with set bed and wake-up times and I think it’s helped us all stay focused and more organized.
Still we face expected and unexpected challenges as parents:
I personally struggle with time management and “getting it all done.”
Our house isn’t always as clean as I’d prefer it to be.
We sleep less and often eat our meals lukewarm (or cold).
We struggle to find time together as a couple.
On the flip side, we laugh more…with our children, at ourselves. We’re busier yet our lives are simpler. We value people over things and have learned to recognize the simple beauty that surrounds us. Here is a sneak peak into a typical day with the Baileys.
Parenting is one of the most difficult things I’ll ever do. I have two little people constantly looking up to me, dependent on me for every physical, emotional, social, and spiritual need. Support from family and friends has been invaluable to us individually and as a couple. But even simple things like effective products make the day-to-day routine of being a parent just a little bit easier.
“Parenting can be overwhelming, but my wife and I work together to constantly improve upon what we’ve learned over the past few years with our children,” said Poncho de Anda. “And we’ve learned a lot – like relying on Huggies diapers and wipes, which stand up to the tests of our little ones and have helped us make it through long flights and even spaghetti night with ease!”
I recently shared some information about the partnership between Huggies and Mexican TV personality Poncho de Anda. The father of two is helping Hispanic parents navigate the stresses and messes of parenting by offering tips and advice via a new webisode series. The series feature Poncho, his wife, and their two children as they deal with everything from packing for a trip to preparing their house for guests. I love the fact that his tips are simple yet effective and easily attainable. Here are my favorites:
Keep order. Implement schedules to stay organized. This becomes increasingly important when parents go on to have subsequent children. Having a second child and handling two little ones certainly can be difficult. Being organized is key.
Mark your safety zones. Even if you’ve baby-proofed your house, you’ll want to go through the house again before guests with small children come over. Be sure that cleaning supplies and medications are stored safely away, put padding on sharp table corners and remove fragile items like glass vases and frames from low surfaces.
Diaper Bag Distractions. Be sure to stock the diaper bag with small toys, a few snacks, books and Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers with improved Leak Lock to keep children entertained and comfortable wherever you go.
Have Wipes On Hand. Keep a tubs of wipes throughout the house, not just the nursery, to use for everything from diaper changing to dinner clean up.
Huggies wants parents to try out the new and improved Huggies Diapers and Wipes. The Snug & Dry Diapers feature improved Leak Lock to pull in wetness and lock it away, a wider absorbent pad, and improved leg guards to keep wetness in. The Natural Care Wipes are gentle and fragrance-free which means they can be used on hands and faces too.
