A 2-Hour Turkey Recipe, Fall Table Decor, and Holiday Inspiration for Your Thanksgiving Meal *Giveaway*

Posted by Caryn Bailey 107 Comments

Instead of jet-setting and relaxing with my husband’s family, this year we’ll be busy prepping and cooking a majority of my own family’s Thanksgiving meal. I’ve been browsing the internet for recipes, tips, how-to guides, and more so that we’re prepared for the endeavor.

Have you checked out the recipes, and decorating/entertaining tips on Vons’ Holiday Inspirations site? I love the store’s classy, gourmet approach which stays true to the tradition of Thanksgiving. The site is a wealth of information and inspiration and includes everything from how to prepare a turkey in 2 hours (they even have an app for that!) to creating your Thanksgiving tablescape. Find out which wine will pair well with the dishes you’re preparing, how to spice up your turkey, and what to do with your turkey leftovers.

I absolutely love this recipe for Roasted Squash with Spinach and Gruyere!

Serves 4
Ingredients:
2 acorn squash (about 1 lb. each)
1 package (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed
1 1/2 cups shredded Primo Taglio™ Gruyère Cheese (about 6 oz.)
1/2 cup walnut halves, chopped
Salt and fresh-ground pepper

Directions

Rinse squash and cut each in half lengthwise; scoop out and discard seeds. Place squash halves, cut side down, in a lightly oiled 10- by 15-inch pan.

Bake in a 425° oven until squash is just tender when pierced, about 25 minutes. Meanwhile, squeeze moisture from spinach. In a bowl, mix spinach, 1 cup of the cheese, the walnuts, and salt and pepper to taste.

With tongs or a spatula, turn squash halves over and spoon spinach mixture equally into cavities. Sprinkle equally with remaining 1/2 cup cheese. Return squash to oven and bake until cheese melts and filling is hot in the center, 15 to 20 minutes.

If you’re out and about and need some tips or inspiration, visit the store’s mobile site for information on making your Thanksgiving special and what to do with those leftovers.

To celebrate the Thanksgiving season, Safeway (the parent company to Vons) is giving away 250 $100 gift certificates on their Facebook page. Just make the turkey laugh and you’re entered to win (details found on the Safeway Facebook page).

Win It! One of you will win a $100 gift card to Safeway which can be used at any of the company’s stores. Simply leave me a comment with a recipe or tip you found inspirational on the site (other than those mentioned in this post). Comments will close on November 27th at 11:59 PM PST.

I like this tip on grilling:
Always keep the lid closed on a gas grill during cooking. Gas grills lose heat rapidly, so cooking times can be off if they are left open too long.

Like the tip: Resist the temtation to turn foods often, especially if you’re cooking on a gas grill or over indirect heat. Turning just once keeps grill temperature consistant and allows for proper browning-what gives grilled foods their unique flavor.
