Over 100 years ago, the city of Huntington Beach hosted its very first 4th of July Celebration, and the city now host to one of the largest celebrations on the west coast. From a COVID-friendly car parade to a kid-friendly festival, there really is something for the whole family. With California now open, I cannot imagine a more joyous way to celebrate our independence than Huntington Beach’s Surf City Dreamin’ 4th of July Celebrations.
Surf City Dreamin’ 4th of July Celebration
This year’s July 4th celebration will take place over three days, culminating in a spectacular fireworks show over the ocean complete with a Condor Squadron Flyover. Here are the events you don’t want to miss:
The Pier Plaza Festival
For three days, the Pier Plaza Festival will feature craft and merchant vendor booths, food trucks, a 12,000 square foot beer and wine garden (the perfect spot for watching the fireworks), live entertainment and radio broadcasts, giveaways, and carnival rides. Residents and visitors are invited to join the opening ceremony on Friday, July 2nd at 10 am.
Surf City Run 5K
This year, runners have the option of a virtual or in-person 5K, which will take runners through Huntington Central Park. The run will include staggered start times for a socially distanced experience. The Surf City Run takes place on July 4th, with start times at 6:30 am, 8:00 am, 9:30 am and 11 am. The run will conclude at 11:30 am. Be sure to register online at hb4thofjuly.org/surf-city-run.
Neighborhood Car Parade
Do not miss the Neighborhood Car Parade, with appearances by the Ghostbusters ambulance, Disney’s Lightning McQueen, Herbie the Love Bug, a double-decker London Transport bus, boat-towing monster trucks, the Marina High School Viking Boat, and a military vehicle from the future: a transport from the Amazon Original, The Tomorrw War.
