My childhood visits to Knott’s were mostly comprised of school field trips where we sat in the Schoolhouse and learned about California’s history and the Old West. I went on my first upside-down roller coaster with my dad at Knott’s, and as a family, we made a scrapbook of memories. I was in elementary school when Knott’s Bear-y Tales closed to become Kingdom of the Dinosaurs and my recollection of the dark ride is faint. But true to its history and to celebrate Knott’s Berry Farm’s 100th anniversary comes the sequel, Knott’s Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair.

Knott’s Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair
I absolutely love the history and backstory of amusement park attractions. Like the original, Knott’s Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair is a dark ride in the same space Voyage to the Iron Reef was housed. The 4D interactive ride takes families through the County Fair with Boysenbear and Girlsenbear through scenes that fans will find reminiscent of the original ride. Travel through the Boysenberry Pie Factory, Frog Forest, Fortune Teller Camp, Thunder Cave, Weird Woods, and the County Fair.
The story takes place 34 years after the original and follows Boysen Bear and Girlsen Bear as they work to earn the blue ribbon prize for their famous boysenberry pies. But they’ll have to contend with Crafty Coyote and his pups who are intent on stealing all of the pies for themselves. Families will use their jelly blasters to recover the stolen boysenberry pies as they travel through the lush environments and compete for the highest score.
The most noteworthy difference from the original ride is the immersive, 4D experience. Families play an active role in trying to recover the stolen boysenberry pies. Triotech collaborated with the creative team at Knott’s to design the ride, which features the scent of boysenberry, the ride’s iconic soundtrack, “Welcome One and All,” and Easter eggs such as physical figures of the frogs that were part of the original ride.
The debut of Knott’s Bear-y Tales is one of the many ways Knott’s Berry Farm will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Stay tuned for information about The Knott’s Family Reunion, which will include new costume characters, special evening entertainment during Knott’s Summer Nights, one-of-a-kind food and drink specialties, a nightly ceremony featuring the newly redesigned illuminated K-tower, and more. Knott’s Berry Farm’s anniversary celebration will run through September 6, 2021.
