Perhaps the most pleasantly surprising film I’ve seen all year is Disney’s live-action remake of the classic film Dumbo. From the brilliant Tim Burton, this grand adventure takes the classic story, inspired by the novel by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl, and reimagines it. Now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital, Dumbo will captivate audiences both young and old with its poignant story about a baby elephant with oversized ears and the uncanny ability to fly.

Dumbo
Dumbo follows the story of struggling circus owner Max Medici, who enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children to care for a newborn elephant, mocked for his oversized ears. When they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting the charismatic but sinister entrepreneur V.A.Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, spectacular, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland.
Dumbo is a story about celebrating differences, overcoming adversity, and the idea that people, young and old, can have great impact on others. While the film carries its weight in emotion, it is also visually impressive, from the set to the costumes. While families can bring the film home on a variety of formats, I imagine 4K Ultra HD would be the optimal format to glean a true appreciation for the visual beauty of this film.
Dumbo on Blu-ray, Digital, and DVD
Dumbo, now available on Digital in HD, 4K Ultra HD, Movies Anywhere, Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD, features never-before-seen bonus features, deleted scenes, Easter eggs, and bloopers.
In the bonus features, extras transport viewers to the set of “Dumbo,” where cast members Danny DeVito (circus owner Max Medici), Michael Keaton (businessman V.A. Vandevere), Colin Farrell (war-veteran-turned-elephant-keeper Holt Farrier), Eva Green (aerialist Colette Marchant), Nico Parker (Farrier’s daughter, Milly) and Finley Hobbins (Farrier’s son, Joe) share their personal stories of courage and character. Families will also explore how Disney’s timeless animated story was brought to life with an incredibly expressive, lovable, fully computer-generated baby elephant; the longtime collaboration of Burton, production designer Rick Heinrichs and costume designer Colleen Atwood, which resulted in jaw-dropping sets and costumes; and the creation of the visually colossal Dreamland parade sequence.
