How to Make Early Man Hognob Cupcakes and Printables

Animation has evolved since its inception, and today’s animated films are primarily crafted using computer generated imagery (CGI). But the inception of animation was marked by stop-motion photography used to create motion. Even today, there are filmmakers like Nick Park, who prefer the technique because of the realism it affords. His latest film Early Man, tells the story of how one brave caveman unites his tribe against a mighty enemy. The film was released earlier this year in the UK and debuts in US theaters February 16, 2018.

Early Man

Early Man stars the voice talents of Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, and Timothy Spall. Set in the Stone Age, the story unfolds as a tribe is driven out of their home by a Bronze Age army in a show of power to usher in the new, more advanced age. Forced to live on the outskirts, caveman Dug is mistakenly thrust into a situation which poses an opportunity for the tribe to reclaim their home. His challenge? A game of football (American soccer). With their valley at stake, the caveman must unite his tribe against the enemy to take back their home.

How to Make Early Man Hognob Cupcakes

Earlier this week, we spent the afternoon at Duff’s Cakemix in LA to learn how to make Early Man Hognob Cupcakes. The bakery features an in-house cake decorating studio and offers do-it-yourself cake and cupcake decorating. The bakery was founded by Ace of Cakes star Duff Goldman.

Supplies

Cupcakes
Small rolling pin
Round cookie cutter
Mauve fondant
Black fondant
Brown sugar
Water
Buttercream frosting

Directions

Create ears, nose, and eyes with fondant
Roll out the mauve fondant
Cut a medium circle and attach the circle to the top of the cupcake
Attach the ears to the top of the head (use toothpicks for support if needed)
Attach the nose to the middle of the face
Attach the eyes to the face
Using a thick toothpick, indent the three wrinkles above the nose and the smile
Attach the lower lip
Attach the tusks
Using a thick toothpick, spread buttercream in-between the ears and on the sides of the face
Coat the buttercream in brown sugar
