We like to eat out…a lot! And while we try to limit the number of times we indulge in this expensive habit, inevitably there comes a night when my husband and I are both getting home after 8:00 and neither of us wants to start cooking. The other night I went to Pomodoro and ordered take-out….I paid with a credit card of course. Who carries cash these days anyway? Well, of course there was a spot on the receipt to add a tip. It got me thinking…do I really need to provide a tip when I am not dining in? I feel like it’s mandatory since it’s on the receipt but I want some justification for it. Are they not required to cook my food? I need some advice! : ) Happy Friday!

I would say no tip unless you are dining in/delivery and you have someone who serves you. We also tip in buffet situations. Don’t feel it’s mandatory, it’s just on the receipt for those who dine in or use the delivery option. Looking forward to hearing other input.

I sometimes leave a buck or two in cash. The people working take out aren’t getting to work tables and get tips. Depends on the situation. Definitely not a 15% situation. But it’s nice that they get the order right, ask if you want extra stuff like bread, sauces, cheese, etc. I take it on a case by case basis depending on how attentive they seem. Sucks to get your order wrong and be home when you find out!

I never leave a tip when I am just picking up food. I just put a line through the place for the tip.

I probably wouldn’t leave a tip. To me, that’s for when someone actually has to wait on you and clean up after you.
