I have a renewed appreciation for the athletic performers that star in Marvel Universe LIVE! Age of Heroes. That said after I spent the morning learning some “fight” techniques from these real-life superheroes. The cast was “assembled” in April, and spent several weeks training to provide the type of epic, comic-book superhero action you would expect from Marvel. This heroic team is an eclectic mix of aerialists, dancers, acrobats and stunt performers who bring your favorite comic book stories to life.
“She fights like a girl” was the phrase of the day, and it likely didn’t help that I was wearing 5 inch heels during my “training.” It is a lot more difficult than I imagined to be on the offensive, as evidenced by my very weak punch (if you can even call it a punch). As I watched the premiere of the show at the Honda Center, I was impressed with how realistic the fight scenes were, particularly given my behind-the-scenes look at the stunt moves used throughout the show.
Marvel Universe LIVE! Age of Heroes brings 25 of your favorite Marvel characters to life in one epic mission to defend the universe from evil. Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy team up to face Doctor Strange in a race against time to recover the Wand of Watoomb before it falls into Loki’s hands. This ancient artifact, if attained by the villain, would help Loki achieve his quest to crown himself ruler of the universe.
This is the first time audiences will see these Super Heroes live on-stage in a brand new show with an original story. Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes will wow audiences with cutting-edge special effects, aerial stunts, and video projection as the story comes to life in simulated comic book scenes. In addition to your favorite superheroes, you’ll see Black Panther, Hulk, Black Widow, Nebula, and Thor live on-stage! I personally loved seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time on-stage. Groot is impressive in stature while Rocket brings the comic relief we have come to expect from the anthropomorphic raccoon.
