Do you give your kids juice? I would love some feedback from you. I have struggled with the answer to this question for a long time. My pediatrician simply told me at one point that it wasn’t necessary and that if I didn’t have it in the house, it wouldn’t even be an option open for discussion with my toddler. However, the reality is that he really likes juice. As a parent, I struggle with this. I want to ensure that I do what’s best for him, without completely denying him everything. So my philosophy (if that is what you want to call it), is everything some things in moderation. That is the stance we’ve taken on juice. He can have a serving a day of a carefully selected juice product. In other words, I do my research. I read labels. I have this list of companies that I’ll purchase juice products from (it varies depending on the grocery store I’m shopping at and what’s available). And I’ve added another company to that list.
So what’s the issue with fruit juice? If you read the labels of countless juice boxes on the market, one thing stands true for all of them. They contain a LOT of sugar (sometimes between 30 and 40 grams per serving)…even if they’re labeled 100% fruit juice. Some contain as much sugar as a serving of soda. So while they may contain 100% fruit juice, it doesn’t change the amount of sugar present. When you eat a piece of fruit, you don’t ingest that much sugar at one time like you do when you drink a serving of juice.
Thanks to Mom Fuse, my son and I had an opportunity to try out Honest Kids, “a new line of organic, low-sugar, fruit-flavored thirst quenchers” from Honest Tea. My husband and I really enjoy the bottled organic iced teas so we thought we’d try these out with our little boy. They’re available in three flavors (Berry Berry Good Lemonade, Goodness Grapeness, and Tropical Tango Punch) and contain less than half the sugar of other juice pouches. Each pouch contains 40 calories, 10 grams of organic cane sugar and 100% of the daily-recommended value of Vitamin C. They’re organic and do not contain high fructose corn syrup (yeah!).
I always try a food product before I give it to my son. It’s just my standard. So, I tried all 3 flavors before giving him some…and then had to force myself not to drink anymore because they taste that good. They don’t simply taste like watered-down juice. And while they have a sweet taste to them, it’s not overwhelming. Each drink tastes like the fruit it’s named for. My son didn’t even notice that they have a lot less sugar than he’s had in other juice drinks. My son’s favorite flavor is Goodness Grapeness and I wasn’t terrible crazy about Berry Berry Good Lemonade (only because I like my lemonade unflavored). But overall I was impressed with the taste and nutritional content of these beverages. I strive to purchase organic foods and this is definitely a brand I will be purchasing again.
Each eight-pack retails for $3.99-$4.99 and we purchase them at Whole Foods although they’re also available at Target.
Profuse thanks to Mom Fuse for this review opportunity!

Have you ever heard of First Juice? It’s a GREAT organic and healthy juice which is actually delicious. They are gluten free, and full of vitamin D. Also, the juice comes in great bottles that are BPA free and reuseable. They have sport twisty tops so you can pack them in kids lunches for school, and they can drink it throughout the day.
