{Consideration provided by Knott’s Berry Farm}
We woke up that beautiful winter morning excited to kick off the holiday season with Snoopy and the gang and a dusting of snow in Calico. Knott’s Merry Farm has become a cherished holiday tradition in our family. We love seeing Knott’s rustic old west all dressed up for Christmas. This year, Christmas in Calico has never been more exciting with strolling carolers and nightly snowfall. Plus, a brand new entertainment lineup featuring your favorite Peanuts characters is certain to delight both young and old.
If you’re planning to visit this season, I’ve put together 10 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays at Knott’s Merry Farm. This guide will help you make the most of your visit at the park while creating special memories for your family.
Make the Most of Knott’s Merry Farm
- Write a letter to Santa Claus: Earlier this year, Ghost Town came alive as its citizens opened the doors to their shops to greet and interact with guests. Calico Town Hall opened at that time and now serves as a hub for a host of holiday activities at Knott’s Merry Farm. Little ones can share their Christmas wishes or ask Santa how he delivers all of those gifts in one night by drafting and sending a letter to Old St. Nick.
- Ring in the season with Christmas Carols: Outside of Town Hall, the Calico Carolers stroll the streets sharing the joy of the season through music.
- Warm up with a cup of hot chocolate: After you’ve enjoyed all of the merriment in Ghost Town, warm up at Santa’s Christmas Cabin! We spend a lot of time here during our visit to Knott’s Merry Farm because we can warm up with their gourmet hot cocoa bar, fuel up with roasted nuts, and indulge in sweet treats like Knott’s signature poured-to-order maple lollipops. During this time of year, you won’t want to miss all of the delectable treats and seasonal offerings available at the cabin including chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick, Snoopy cookies, fresh fruit tarts, hot spiced holiday wine, craft beers and more.
- Take a photo with Santa: Before you leave Santa’s Christmas Cabin, be sure to snap a photo with St. Nick. This is one of the most beautiful Christmas backdrops to take a photo so be sure to bring your camera and dress for the occasion. You can also purchase a photo on-site.
- Join the traditional tree lighting ceremony: Earlier this year, Knott’s added Calico Park where their Christmas tree stands tall. The park’s new tree lighting ceremony features the Calico Bell Choir and the Citizens of Calico as they illuminate the tree and the streets surrounding Calico.
- Pick out the perfect, handcrafted Christmas gift: One of the most unique aspects of Knott’s Merry Farm is the ability to find one-of-a-kind specialty gifts. Knott’s Christmas Crafts Village is open daily features a variety of artisan gifts you won’t find anywhere else. If you visit before December 8th, 2016, you can shop for free without purchasing park admission.
- See Charles Dickens’ classics come to life: One of the reasons Dickens’ short stories have endured is because they convey the true meaning of the season. Every year, Knott’s Merry Farm melodrama company brings A Gift of the Magi and A Christmas Carol to life on-stage at the historic Bird Cage Theatre. I always walk away with a renewed sense of the importance of family and togetherness over things during this season.
- See a professional ice skating show: With a passion for the arts, I’ve seen a fair number of live shows. When it comes to ice skating, I’ve yet to find a show that matches the one performed at Knott’s Merry Farm. Their world class ice skaters team up with the Peanuts gang for a breathtaking show that celebrates the best and most important aspects of Christmas.
- Learn how to survive the holidays from the Peanuts gang: Camp Snoopy’s brand new holiday show, A Peanuts Guide to Christmas, features Charlie Brown and his friends imparting their humorous insight on surviving the holidays. For more holiday merriment from the Peanuts gang, see It’s the Merriest Christmas Show Ever, Charlie Brown at the new Calico Mine Stage. In this new show, find out if Charlie Brown will get his one and only wish…to spend the holidays with his family and his beloved beagle Snoopy.
- Enjoy a rare, Southern California snowfall: As the sun sets in Calico, watch as the buildings glow with sparkling lights and a dusting of snow, all to the sounds of your favorite holiday tunes.

I’d probably go just for the Dickens’ shows. What a great perk!
