My son likes to tell me that when he grows up, he’s going to be smarter than me. At 9, he already knows that he wants to be paleontologist…or an animator. I absolutely love his passion and confidence in his academic skills and abilities, something I’m working hard to also instill within my daughter.
Last week, Nintendo hosted an engaging, hands-on Female Empowerment Workshop for local members of Girls Inc., an organization focused on inspiring girls to be smart, strong and bold and empowering them to succeed.
Nintendo And Girls Inc. Host Style Savvy: Fashion Forward Workshop At Big Door Studios
The workshop was hosted in conjunction with the launch of Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, Nintendo’s latest game for the Nintendo 3DS system. The girls in attendance had an opportunity to get hands on with the game, spend quality time with other girls, and glean some fashion advice from beauty/fashion blogger Ashley Fultz from The Style Editrix.
Designed for children ages 6+, Style Savvy: Fashion Forward for Nintendo 3DS encourages girls to show off their sense of style and introduces them to 5 careers in the fashion world. Girls can manage a boutique, design clothes, style hair, practice their make-up skills and become the next top model with this fashion-centric video game.
With over 19,000 different articles of clothing and accessories, girls are only limited by their imagination. The game also features a social component where girls can visit friends who play, participate in fashion contests, and design a showroom for other players to see. As a parent, I appreciate that the game inspires girls to be creative, teaches them management skills and introduces them to the fashion industry.

Raising career-oriented kids is a huge passion of mine, and I work hard to ensure that much of our activities have an educational component to them. Role-play through video games is a great way for kids to “try out” different careers to find out what they are passionate about. I would love to see additional games in the series, introducing children to a wide variety of careers.
