When I first learned that ABC Family’s Young and Hungry featured Emily Osment as a young food blogger, I was intrigued. I don’t watch much television, but the appeal of watching a show I could possibly relate to was enough to draw me in. The show, which airs Wednesdays on ABC Family, follows Gabi (Osment) who becomes the personal chef to tech entrepreneur Josh (Jonathan Sadowski). Predictably, the two have a chemistry that leads them into a less than professional start to their relationship. As the show proceeds, Gabi must prove her skills to Josh and his personal aide Elliott (Rex Lee) in order to keep the job she so desperately needs.
Interestingly enough, the show’s only tie-in with food blogging is the inspiration gleaned from San Francisco food blogger Gabi Moskowitz and “blogging” plays no (or a very minimal) role in the show. This was disappointing and the show lost it’s appeal for me. I’d also note that much of the humor is racy and/or just not funny. The story itself feels somewhat predictable, uninspired and primarily focuses on this constant tension between Josh and Gabi.
In tonight’s episode titled “Young and Car-less,” Gabi finds herself once again stuck with a car that has broken down. Josh takes it upon himself to replace her aging vehicle but Gabi is devastated. The car was the last gift she received from her late mother, propelling Josh and the gang to get Gabi’s car back.
Admittedly, I had higher hopes for this show because I truly enjoy Emily Osment as an actress. You can watch an all-new episode of Young & Hungry tonight on ABC Family at 8/7C.
