As a homeowner, I constantly juggle the weight of responsibility with the freedom I have to personalize our space to our liking. My husband and I thankfully have similar tastes in style and design, always opting for Contemporary motifs. When we first purchased our home, our primary objective was to paint and carpet our home. We added our unique personal touches to our living and dining areas and spent a lot of time focusing on making our childrens’ room vibrant, colorful, and exciting. While we aspired to transform our bedroom, there always seemed to be another project that took precedence. Since this is the time of year we often clean and organize, I thought now would be the perfect opportunity for a Spring Bedroom Makeover.
Our bedroom is relatively simple, outfitted with our iComfort Sleep System, a dresser, a couple of nightstands and lamps. Since we prefer our sleep space uncluttered, we decided to add a splash of color and personality through a new sheet set, asymmetric throw pillows, and a set of black and white canvas wall art. I shopped for our Spring Bedroom Makeover at our local Walmart and was pleasantly surprised at their selection of quality bedding and home decor.
Quality bedroom sheets are important for restful sleep. I personally don’t sleep well when the sheets are stiff or itchy, so I always opt for a high thread count. Walmart carries a selection of luxury sheets by Select Edition, so I picked up a king size set in Teal Silk. Made from 100% cotton, these sheets contain a 500 thread count and feel absolutely divine to the touch. They are designed to be wrinkle-free and resistant to pilling which means they should last quite a bit of time. We ran them through the washer and dryer once and they still look brand new. *Note* Our bed is a California King and these sheets fit perfectly.
Walmart carries this sheet set in 7 varied primary and secondary colors and it includes 1 fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and 2 pillowcases. While priced higher than most of the sets in our local store, I felt the quality of this set was worth the price.
We recently purchased a simple white comforter, so I decided to add a bit of color with some accent pillows in the same color scheme as the sheet set. To coordinate with our Contemporary design approach, we opted for 3 different pillows to create an asymmetrical look. The Teal Envelope Cord With Button Decorative Pillow is from Walmart’s Mainstays brand, and the Tan Hexagon and Seaglass Ombre Chenille Pillows are from Better Homes and Gardens. These accent pillows are a quick, easy way to transform a bed without spending a lot of money.
Our bedroom walls are relatively bare save a wedding photo and a couple of our kids’ portraits. Because we live in an area subject to earthquakes, we have always left the space above our bed empty. While perusing the home section at our local Walmart, I found a set of black and white canvas photos featuring bridges from all over the world. My husband and I absolutely adore travel photography and the black and white motif worked well into our Contemporary Design. The set of 4 canvas photos were easy to install and they are very lightweight (a good thing when they’re situated above our heads). We have framed travel art and photographs throughout our home and this set was a great addition to our bedroom and captures our passion for travel.
The entire cost of our Spring Bedroom Makeover was $130 which is incredible, considering the quality and design of the items we purchased. Our previously simple, austere bedroom is now warm, vibrant and inviting…a welcomed Spring change. All of the items we purchased are available online or at your local Walmart.
