The endeavor of a vacation is to remove you from ordinary life; to seek out new and exciting experiences, allowing your mind and body a chance to fully disconnect from the stresses that drive your day-to-day life. Whether your idea of the perfect vacation is a relaxing week on a quiet remote beach, the hurried pace of big city tourism or a cross-country road trip, one element never changes: Food!
We often find ourselves seeking out unique food and dining experiences on vacation. What better time is there to find some of the best cuisine and cultural experiences a new location has to offer than on vacation? Incidentally, it is also a time when we decide not to focus on the price tag, rather the culinary adventure that ensues.
Usually, resort style vacations offer all-inclusive food packages, which although may be convenient, leave a lot to be desired. My recent trip to the Villa del Palmar Resort and Spa at the Islands of Loreto proved to be a very different experience. Given that it is 45 minutes removed from civilization, there are essentially no other options (unless you wish to prepare food in your suite). To that end, the resort goes to great lengths to provide unparalleled dining options right there on property. From casual buffet dining at The Market, or Casa Mia, the resort’s patio café, to fine dining at Danzante, an array of diverse culinary options await.
The Market
The Market is open for all meals and offers the most varied, affordable and family-friendly menu selections. Seating options include tables inside an air conditioned dining room or patio seating al fresco. Breakfast is served until noon and offers a range of traditional Mexican and American foods, including French Toast, Chorizo, fruit, chilaquiles, omlettes and steak with eggs. This is also where the resort offers a weekly fun-filled Mexican party, complete with live entertainment hosted by a rotation of dedicated hotel employees and even a piñata for the kids.
Casa Mia
Casa Mia is the resorts patio bar and grill, serving up café style food like wood fired pizza, tacos and sandwiches, along with an excellent drink offering. It is open at lunch time and stays open until late. Evenings here also get lively with regularly scheduled game shows, dancing and karaoke hosted by the resort’s in-house DJ.

Danzante
At Danzante, Chef Roberto Cardazzo serves the absolute finest cuisine Loreto has to offer. Inspired by the fresh seafood found in the surrounding Sea of Cortez and Ensenada Blanca Bay, the chef offers a dining experience you will not soon forget. He is even said to personally dive for the famous chocolate clams that they serve in the restaurant. Danzante serves a delicious variety of seafood and fine cuts of meat in a friendly upscale atmosphere, both inside and on their patio. It seems they may also offer the option upon request to serve dinner at a private table under the stars. The adjoining bar also offers a large array of cigars, fine wines, and an excellent selection of tequilas.
Whether you enjoy casual eateries or fine dining, the Villa del Palmar Resort at the Islands of Loreto has just about everything you can imagine… and I’m pretty sure if they don’t, they’ll see what can be done. It is unapologetically their mission to give guests the experience of a life time.
