The joy and excitement I see in my children’s eyes when they open up a card or a letter from their grandparents or they great grandmother is immeasurable. I grew up during a time when sending handwritten letters, cards, and invitations was not only the norm, it was expected. With the continuous evolution of the internet and technology, I can send a text to my husband in Toronto while on a business trip, we can FaceTime with my in-laws who live in the Southeast, and I can message with my former colleague who lives in Australia in real-time through Facebook. With the numerous ways to connect, often in real-time, why is the art of a handwritten card or letter not lost.
I have a box of cards and elegant stationery that I keep on-hand for spontaneous moments that may arise. Admittedly, I’ve become lazy and I often revert to the quick and easy method of communication that technology has afforded me. Fortunately, companies like Hallmark are passionate about celebrating life’s big and small moments and fostering personal, meaningful connections. It takes time and thought to craft a handwritten card or letter but I can honestly say that because they are so rare these days, they are particularly special and memorable.
Apart from the convenience of using technology to communicate and express emotion, I’ve often found the price of cards to be increasing exponentially. I have seen cards priced as high as $8 and despite how intricately designed they are or the fact that they play music, I can’t justify that type of expense. On the flip side, I’ve also perused the small and often limited selection of value-price cards only to be disappointed.
Walmart recently teamed up with Hallmark to offer a brand new, exclusive collection of Everyday and Seasonal cards called Connections from Hallmark. Starting at just 47 cents (no typos here!), these cards make it easy and affordable to celebrate your most important moments, however big or small. We received a generous assortment of Spring, Easter, and Birthday cards and I was impressed with both the quality and design of the cards.
As you can see from the photo above, the designs range from modern and vibrant to classy and elegant. Along with offering cards for every occasion, there are also options for children that aren’t necessarily character-themed. The messages inside are succinct yet emotive and still allow for personalization. I often find myself at a loss for words when the message of a card is lengthy and embellished.
