If you know me in “real life,” then you know that I start each day with at LEAST 1 cup of tea, if not more. Tea for me is how I relax at night or energize in the morning. It’s so much better than coffee because, not only are there like a gaziilion flavors, there are also different types (black, green, white, rooibos, etc.). I like the ability to use teas for therapeutic purposes. I’ve used chamomile to sleep, green tea for energy, and “herbal” teas for pregnancy and lactation. I enjoy having tea with a savory meal or with a dessert. Yes…I LOVE tea!
I recently begged for had an opportunity to try The Republic of Tea’s new Little Citizen’s herb teas. The Republic of Tea is one of my favorite brands of tea to consume. They have a diverse variety of quality teas. Their new Little Citizen’s line is “the first line of naturally caffeine-free, organic Rooibos based, Fair Trade Certified herbal teas for children.” I never thought about giving my son tea until I learned of this new line. My son often wants to drink whatever mommy is drinking but that’s mostly because he’s curious. We had an opportunity to try the absolutely smooth and delicious Strawberry Vanilla flavor (which is a blend of Organic, Fair Trade Certified Rooibos, sweet strawberries, and vanilla). I’ve been having at least 1 cup every morning. I always let it cool to room temperature because of my toddler who likes to try and grab cups and everything else. I had brought it into the living room last week and went back to the kitchen to grab a napkin. When I returned, I found my son drinking my tea! He looked up and me and said “Mmmmm.” Don’t you just love toddlers? Needless to say, I guess my son likes the tea too!
Rooibos is one of my favorite teas to consume. This South African-grown, naturally decaffeinenated red tea is filled with antioxidants, and often used for nerves, to boost the immune system, and for digestive problems (read this excellent article here). It has a sweet flavor and tastes even better when it’s flavored. I like to drink it with milk. I never add sugar to any tea because I like to experience the rich flavor of tea in the raw. Little Citizens’ Strawberry Vanilla Tea is definitely the type of tea children would drink. And if you were to add a little sugar, it would probably taste even better to a child. You can also purchase Tangerine and Cherry Apple flavors.
Each can of tea contains 36 tea bags (I like that there is no string or paper to get in the way) and retails for $10.50. For each tin of tea sold, The Repbulic of Tea will contribute $1 to Room to Read, an organization that impacts the lives of millions of children in the developing world by providing the lifelong gift of education. This partnership will provide funding to establish bilingual libraries for underprivileged children in South Africa and help Room to Read establish libraries in other countries in need. You can purchase the teas directly from their site.

Rooibos tea says
Great post. Did you know, Rooibos tea has so many health benefits that it borders on a drug, and the FDA monitored it! Crazy huh?
