The very first time I saw Disney’s silent, black and white animated film Paperman, I was deeply moved. It was beautiful and poignant…hopeful and poetic. Tonight, the short film won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.
Blending hand-drawn and computer-generated animation, the short beautifully depicts a typical boy-meets-girl scenario at a subway station in mid-century New York City. When they go their separate ways, it will take courage and persistence along with a sprinkling of “magic” to reunite the two.
As you may remember Paperman debuted in front of Wreck-It Ralph last Fall, which is scheduled to be released on DVD on March 5th, 2013. The entire short will be included in the Blu-ray Combo Pack, however, you can also view the 6 1/2 minute short on YouTube for $1.99.
