As a young girl, my parents often took day trips to Malibu where we would shop, eat, relax, and fish off the pier. I’d bring a bag of toys and my mother and I would play together while my father sat, fishing pole in hand, waiting for the next “bite.” One of my favorite toys was a small Strawberry Shortcake doll, and I still remember the way her hair smelled…sweet and fruity. As I was playing with her on the ledge, she fell deep into the Pacific Ocean. I still remember that day because, as any little girl would, I cried. But rather than tell me that she would buy me another one, my mother took me by the hand and we walked and walked and walked along the beach. If I were older, I would have known that we would never find that doll. But my mother was so optimistic, that I truly believed we could find her. To this day, I still can’t believe that moment when we saw her off in the distance, washed up along the shore. The sweet strawberry smell of her hair had been replaced by that of the salty Pacific ocean, but she was otherwise intact. I still have that doll tucked away in my parents’ home, waiting for the right day to give it to my daughter.

All I have are a series of moments with my children, and I aspire every day to leave an imprint in their mind so that when they get older, they’ll think back on these days with fondness. This weekend, three generations of women will see Strawberry Shortcake and the Doodlebops Live! On Stage at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The show, which just finished touring in Canada, is based on the popular animated show Strawberry Shortcake’s Berry Bitty Adventures and will feature a live concert with the Doodlebops! My daughter will have an opportunity to see one of her favorite characters sing and dance for the very first time live onstage.
Strawberry Shortcake and the Doodlebops Live! On Stage will make it’s North American debut on Saturday, February 2nd at 4 pm. If you’ll be in LA this weekend, you can purchase tickets to the show by visiting Ticketmaster.Com or at the box office.
