The very first vehicle I purchased as a young woman just out of college was an SUV. I loved the rugged look, elevated profile, and space (not that I really needed it at the time). But in my mind, that was not a vehicle I would ever continue to drive once I had children. There is a certain perception about the ideal family vehicle, and most of the time it comes down to either a sedan or a minivan.
As the years went by, we did end up purchasing a sedan, yet we managed to keep that SUV. As we look for a vehicle to replace our SUV, we’ve considered all of the options…minivans, luxury sedans and everything in between. I always come back to the SUV because I want a vehicle that is a nice blend of sleek and rugged while still offering safety, comfort, and innovative features.
Earlier this week, I had an opportunity to explore the newly redesigned 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. From the outside, the Pathfinder exudes luxury. Moving away from the traditional utilitarian look, the vehicle exudes luxury and a sense of adventure, and just by looking at the vehicle, you wouldn’t necessarily know that it can hold up to 7 passengers (comfortably, at that!).
Families looking for safety, comfort, innovation, and luxury will love the new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.
A Competitive Safety Profile: As a mom, safety is my number one priority when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. The new Pathfinder offers over 50 standard safety features including six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system to help prevent blowouts, Vehicle Dynamic Control to help monitor steering and braking in the event of a skid, Anti-lock Braking System to prevent wheel lockup and maintain steering ability in the event of heavy braking, and a Traction Control System. My favorite feature of the new Pathfinder is the Around View Monitor, which uses four cameras to create an image of the vehicle from above relative to parking spaces and adjacent objects.
Optimal Comfort and Space: As a family of four, a sedan only provides the minimum amount of space we need to comfortably seat our family. For road trips, school pick-ups, and family outings, additional space would be ideal. For families requiring enough room to seat 6-7 passengers, their options are largely reduced to the minivan or an oversized SUV, and even still, comfort is not always guaranteed. With Nissan’s EZ Flex Seating system, each person sits comfortably, including those seated in the third row. Unique to the brand is the fact that the second row moves forward and backward up to 5 1/2 inches (even with a car seat installed!) so that climbing does not have to ensue. With a more spacious third row and seats that recline, comfort doesn’t takes a back seat with this vehicle. For those times when you don’t need the seating capacity, you can drop the third row (or both the second and third rows) for additional cargo space.
Innovative Luxury Features: After safety, luxury features top the list of must-haves and weigh heavily into my purchasing decision. Since I drive quite a bit, I heavily rely on Google Maps to help navigate traffic and direct me to my destination. Nissan’s advanced Navigation System provides turn-by-turn voice guidance, a Bluetooth, Hands-Free Phone System, and add-on feature SiriusXM Satellite Radio…all at the touch of the screen.
For road trips, the Tri-Zone Entertainment System is brilliant. While the kids watch their favorite animated film, I can still listen to music. The system also allows passengers the ability to play video games or plug in a laptop.
Despite the Pathfinder’s innovative technology features, safety is still the priority. The Advanced Drive-Assist Display ensures that drivers have everything they need displayed in front of them, to avoid distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Unmatched Fuel Economy: Deemed best in its class, the new Pathfinder boasts a reduction in weight, improved aerodynamics, and an advanced transmission to achieve it’s 26 MPG rating.
The new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder is now on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
