Winter Warm-Up With Cookie’s Kids

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

We’ve just had another rainy few days here in Southern California, and while our winters are never unbearably cold, there were several days last week I would have been content to simply snuggle under a warm blanket and drink hot tea with my kids. We’re about a month away from the start of winter, and to prepare, I went into my kids’ closets and dressers to evaluate their wardrobe needs in anticipation of the season.

Kids' Outerwear

A few weeks prior, I had purchased a new coat, boots, and umbrella for my son because his outerwear no longer fit him.  It had been months since we pulled out these items and I was surprised at how quickly he outgrew them, given their typical lengthy wear time.  When I went into my daughter’s side of the closet, I found that she also needed some winter attire, but the store where I purchased my son’s outerwear/rain gear did not have anything attractive for little girls.

Winter Fashion

Having shopped online at CookiesKids.com, I decided to check out their Winter Fashions to find my daughter a jacket. Known as the world’s largest kid’s department store, Cookie’s Kids has actually been around for 40 years and is based in New York with seven locations in Bronx, Brooklyn, and Jamaica.  I’ve always found the site to offer a wide variety of children’s clothing from well-known, reputable brands like Carter’s, Levi’s, and Disney and was quite pleased with their winter selection of outerwear.

Carter's Jacket

Since my daughter is still young, I allowed her to simply choose a color for her jacket while I made the final decision about the style.  I wanted a jacket she could use on cold days here in Southern California but wouldn’t restrict her movement due to bulk or heaviness.  I actually narrowed our selections down to just two jackets, and ended up going with Carter’s “Ice Garden” Insulated Jacket because of the brand’s reputation, the affordable price (it was just $24.99), and the warmth it provided.  Not only is it weather-resistant and fully insulated, this jacket has a fleece lining and a hood. While browsing the site, I found a hat/mitten set that I though complimented the jacket nicely so I purchased it to complete her winter outwear look.

Alva Kids Size Chart

Finding the right fit has been quite the challenge for both of my children, but my daughter’s smaller stature makes it even more difficult to purchase items online since she can’t try them on. Cookie’s Kids takes the guesswork out of finding the right size for your child.  When you find the item you’d like to purchase, simply click on the “Alva Kids” icon to find the right size. Before using this tool, you’ll need to register for a free account.  You’ll then input important information about your child including his/her age, height, weight etc. to get the right size in that brand. If a particular brand does not have it’s own size chart, you can always use the Generic Size Chart on Cookie’s Kids.

Shopping on the site was pleasant and I quickly found the items I was looking for because Cookie’s Kids is incredibly user-friendly.  I love the ability to sort by size, category, color, brand, and price and can easily filter the results to narrow down my selections. My items arrived less than one week after I purchased them, and I used their $5.95 shipping option. Once we received the jacket and outerwear, I had my daughter try them on for fit and everything was perfect. The jacket fits well and there is some room for growth which means we will get a long wear out of the jacket. The hat and mittens look adorable on my daughter and my only challenge will be to get her to keep them on!

If you’re looking to shop for winter clothing, check out Cookie’s Kids!  And as a little rockin’ bonus, you’ll save 10% sitewide by using the code “rockinmama” (no quotes).  This discount is good through December 21st, 2012.
