I attended the Whole Children, Whole Planet expo in Los Angeles a few weeks ago and I was amazed at how many all-natural, environmentally friendly products are on the market…especially for children.
One of the most interesting companies I came across was a unique stationary company called Mr. Ellie Pooh. Now I try to do my share to protect mama earth…reduce…reuse…recycle. But this company has managed to take this concept to another level. Everything in the store is made from Sri Lankan elephant dung. I guess you can say their products are a piece of c***! Literally! I’ve had to exercise restraint in the writing of this post as this is a G rated blog and I’m a G rated girl.
You know when someone tells you something that you have never heard before and you listen quietly in awe, pondering the concept? That didn’t happen with Mr. Ellie Pooh. When the rep. at the expo told me that the beautiful handmade journals and stationary I was looking at were made from elephant waste I laughed in utter disbelief. They have got to be kidding! But intriguingly, their products are absolutely 100% poop…I mean true!
So the real question I have is why? Why don’t we leave poop where it belongs? What compels a person to look intently at a piece of elephant excrement pondering it’s many uses? Apparently the Sri Lankan elephants are in danger of becoming extinct and are being killed off due to a lack of space. In order to renew a sense of worth and value in the elephant, they must be seen as a sustainable economic resource. Poop just may be the answer they’re looking for.
