When you walk into your local Whole Foods Market, you’ll find a diverse selection of high quality natural and organic products and foods as well as a coffee and juice bar, a bakery, a prepared foods bar, and a Whole Body section. What you’ll also notice about your local market is that it likely houses unique departments and/or products/foods found only in that store.
Whole Foods opened it’s fifth Orange County location last week at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, and among the signature stand-outs we’ve come to expect from America’s Healthiest Grocery store, this location features a fusion café and tea bar appropriately named The Tea Hive, an artisan cheese shop, and two bars featuring craft beers.
In anticipation of the store’s grand opening, I was invited to tour the store and preview the menu at Back Bay Tavern, a full-service, casual bar and restaurant located at the back of the store. The restaurant is larger than I would expect inside a market and can seat 150. The menu is diverse and includes a gourmet selection of beef, seafood, vegetarian, and vegan entrees.
The coastal themed restaurant’s stand out feature is their rotating selection of 36 craft beers on tap and specialty cocktails made with organic ingredients. Because the restaurant’s location, once you step inside you don’t feel like you are in a market. The food is fresh and flavorful with a local flair. Here is a sneak peek at the menu!

As an avid tea drinker, I am looking forward to a new kind of tea experience at The Tea Hive.
This unique cafe and tea bar will feature green, black, and oolong teas prepared frozen, sparkling, iced or steamed. Teas are prepared in martini shakers by “Tea Tenders” and can be paired with the tea bar’s natural fusion entrees which include bowls and wraps made with local, organic products.
