When my husband and I lived in our Sherman Oaks apartment, we could literally walk to the boulevard to shop, watch a film, or dine at one of the many diverse restaurants characteristic of LA. I was also spoiled with a Whole Foods Market right across the street which allowed me to shop daily if desired.
A few months ago, a brand new Whole Foods opened a few miles away, and every week you’ll find me dining or shopping (likely both) at their Laguna Niguel location. I’m excited to see the market expand into areas in need of a place to find local, natural, sustainable foods and products.
On September 19th, Whole Foods will open its 5th Orange County location at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California. While every market is committed to offering it’s guests natural, organic products and foods, you’ll find that each individual store varies by community. Here are some of the features unique to the Newport Beach location:
The Tea Hive: What is your tea drink of choice? Green? Black? Iced? Hot? As an avid tea drinker, I am amazed at the seeming endless variety of teas available, and the various unique ways to prepare tea. For example, did you know you could sparkle your tea? These specialty tea drinks will be prepared in martini shakers by “Tea Tenders” and include Pomaritas (a blend of pomegranate and tart lime with green tea) and Chocolate Chais (black tea, spiced chai, chocolate and cinnamon). Additionally, guests will be able to select from a variety of bowls and wraps to compliment their tea-tacular drink!
Back Bay Tavern – It is quite common to find shoppers dining at their local Whole Foods Market (we just spent Sunday lunch at our location yesterday). This casual restaurant will have the capacity to seat 150 and offer a selection of 24 craft beers on tap plus wine and spirits. The menu will include everything from beef and seafood to vegetarian and vegan meal options. For quicker service, you can visit the express beer and wine bar located at the front of the store.
Fresh, sustainably-sourced, local and seasonal seafood – The market will receive fresh seafood up to six days a week with whole fish and oven-ready selections.
Full in-store bakery – The bakery will offer freshly made breads from scratch, 100% whole grain cakes, delectable desserts, and vegan/gluten-free options.
Juice and coffee bar – One of my favorite sections of our local store is the juice and coffee bar. This is where you’ll find fresh squeezed juices, smoothies, freshly brewed coffee, and espresso drinks.
Extensive produce section with seasonal, locally grown fruits and vegetables
Extensive bulk and raw foods section featuring heirloom beans and sprouted nuts/grains/flours
Quality Meat department – Here is where you will find the highest quality meat from animals raised without antibiotics and added hormones. Whole Foods Market has a very stringent standard for quality which includes a line of 100% grass-fed, locally-sourced beef and chicken. Their new “Get Crocked” section will include complete meals that can be taken home and prepared in a crockpot.
Free Wi-Fi
If you’ll be in the area, be sure to stop in on September 19th for their Grand Opening Celebration. All day you’ll find food and wine tastings/samplings, local vendor demonstrations, and Happy Hour Specials at the Back Bay Tavern. If you are one of the first 300 in line for the 9 am “bread breaking” ceremony, you’ll receive a free demi-baguette!
To celebrate the grand opening of this Newport Beach location, Whole Foods is currently hosting a contest with some fabulous prizes. Here are the details:
