When I was a little girl, I tumbled and twirled in our local YMCA Gymnastics class. I was old enough to remember the uneven bars and floor exercises, but too young to remember why I quit. Growing up, my parents were incredibly supportive of all of my extracurricular activities, from tap, ballet, and jazz to competitive horseback riding. As my children reach the age where they have the physical and emotional maturity to participate in sports, dance, and other activities, I hope that I recognize their potential and help them achieve greatness in whatever they pursue.
Earlier this month, I talked about the importance of a great start, and how Kellogg’s, one of the official sponsors of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams, is highlighting the start stories of eight Team Kellogg’s athletes. During my time in Chula Vista, I had an opportunity to sit down with Rita Wieber, mom to gymnast and Olympic hopeful Jordyn Wieber. During the interview, we talked about that moment when she recognized Jordyn’s potential for Olympic greatness, how parents can help their children achieve greatness, and what constitutes a great start.
Here is my exclusive interview with Rita Wieber:
The US Olympic gymnastics trials will run through Sunday, July 1st and we’re rooting for Jordyn Wieber and Team USA!
Disclosure: This is part of a compensated campaign with Kellogg’s. All opinions remain my own.
