Wake up. Breakfast. Dishes. Shower. Play time. Grocery shopping. Lunch. Story Time. Nap. Laundry. Play time. Dinner. Email/TV. Bedtime.
This is just an example of a typical day in the life of the Baileys. This doesn’t include the other random activities that seem to arise on any given day. Or the days when I have to work. I’m joining a “mommy and me” group and as my son gets older I’d love to put him in a music class. As he is preparing to enter toddlerhood, I’m starting to feel pressure to get him involved in activities and classes to foster his independence, creativity, and development while making new friends. In a society of Gymboree playing, Kindermusik singing children, my son is already behind, no thanks to his mom.
Before Gymboree and Kindermusik, moms and dads were the facilitators of playtime and storytime. I love these programs by the way, but too often parents crowd their schedules with back-to-back activities leaving little time for cultivating family connections and memories.
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies and Playing for Keeps have partnered to create Operation Spark, an educational initiative designed to provide insights and advice on how to strengthen family connections and turn everyday moments into quality time. Head on over to the site, Childhood is Calling for fun activities you and your children can enjoy in the comforts of your home. Check out The Playground for age-specific online games. My favorite part of the site? Cooking with kids! Who doesn’t love an ooey, gooey Rice Krispies treat? Check out the full report for dad and grandparent-specific activities too.
