Despite the fact that I don’t talk much about saving money, I actually do quite a bit to ensure we’re not paying more than we have to for the items we purchase. I’m an avid comparison shopper and do a ton of research before investing in big purchases. I shop at multiple stores (for many reasons), peruse the ads before my shopping ventures, and clip coupons when it makes sense. I’m definitely not an extreme couponer simply because I don’t have time to put in the work that this type of money-saving requires.
As a busy, work-at-home mom, I need money-saving techniques that are easy and don’t require a lot of time, particularly because I shop at multiple stores a few times a week. Recently, I was introduced to Just For U, a program exclusive to Vons and Pavilions that can save you at least 10-20% off your grocery bill, and in many instances much more. The program, which is free to join, utilizes personalized deals, club specials, and coupons to help you maximize your savings. Here is a brief overview of how it works:
1. Sign up for a Club Card if you don’t have one…it’s free!
2. Load deals to your Club Card before visiting your local store to shop (more information on how this works below)
3. Save at least 10 to 20% (exactly how much you saved is listed on the bottom of your receipt)
Even if you have a Club Card, you’ll want to visit the website and complete the registration process so that you’re able to load coupons and deals on to the card.
Once you’ve added coupons and personalized deals to your card, they’ll appear in your Savings List, which is really a compilation of the three (coupons, deals, and club specials). In the event that you’re not able to utilize all three in a single transaction, you’ll always receive the lowest price.
You can print or email (more environmentally friendly) the list to prepare for your shopping experience
Very soon, you’ll be able to download their free app which will allow you to access your personalized offers, digital coupons, and club specials directly on your smart phone.
One of the most appealing aspects of Just For U is the fact that each offer is highly personalized, based on your purchase history. With over 30 million unique offers, it’s like each shopper has their very own personalized ad each and every week.
In our highly technology-focused society, the move towards an online, digital solution to the paper ad is very much needed. Vons has listened to what its customers are saying and wants to ensure they are communicating effectively and personally with them.
Last week, I had an opportunity to try out Just For U at one of four premium stores that feature a Sushi Bar, an Olive Bar, and a Bakery with a Stone Oven. I loaded the deals and coupons onto my card and headed over to the store. My total savings? 47%!
If I could change anything, I’d like to be able to opt out of offers so that the program continues to learn my preferences and eventually provide mostly offers I would purchase. I spoke to the Vons team last week and while it’s something they’ve thought of, the system doesn’t allow it at present.
The questions begs, will I use it?
Absolutely! It’s too easy not to. In fact, it’s time to do my weekly grocery shopping and I’ve already loaded my personalized deals and preferred coupons onto my Club Card. I’m still having a bit of difficulty getting my club specials to load onto my card but I’m working with the social media team to get some assistance.
If you sign up for the program (which is free) you’ll receive a coupon for a free dozen eggs (which you can load directly onto your card, no printing required).
Here are a few photos from the store because it’s simply gorgeous!

No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to an event at Vons Headquarters and was provided gifts cards and a gift as part of my attendance.
