One of the things I struggle constantly with as a parent is determining how much screen time is appropriate, and the type of programming that is acceptable. I know that when my son is watching Disney Junior, he’s being exposed to age-appropriate content that is stimulating, educational, and interactive.
One of our favorite shows, and a favorite among boys between the ages of 2 and 5, is Jake and the Neverland Pirates. The animated series is based on Peter Pan and follows three children who just happen to be pirates in Never Land in search of treasures. It’s up to them to solve their pirate problem to get back the treasure taken by Captain Hook, Smee, and Tick-Tock.
The show incorporates catchy tunes, humor, and education. As a mom, I like the fact that the show models teamwork as the kid pirates work together to problem-solve. At the end of each show, kids can rock out to Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band.
Just in time for the holiday season, the network will air a brand new holiday episode titled It’s A Winter Never Land!/Hook On Ice. In the episode, Jake and his crew awake to find that Peter Pan has left some presents and a tree to celebrate Winter Treasure Day. Meanwhile, Captain Hook invites Jake and his crew on a winter treasure hunt. The new episode will premiere on Friday, December 2nd at 8:30 am ET/PT on the Disney Channel.

We also try to not watch too much TV, but ever since the Disney Junior party at Disney Social Media Moms celebration, they’ve been hooked (so to speak). We’ll set the DVR for this one!
Thanks!
