She had the kind of birthing experience most women desire…peaceful…intimate…”natural.” Every time I read Stephanie’s birth story, my eyes well up with tears…tears of joy. Her story is beautiful and poignant and a reminder of how life should begin.
As an RN, I know that there has been a shift towards the medicalization of childbirth. And while there are very real circumstances where an intervention might be necessary, it’s important for women to be educated and empowered to make decisions for themselves and their babies.
In 2007, Ricki Lake teamed up with Abby Epstein to enlighten and inspire women about the process of childbirth and the options available surrounding labor and delivery. The Business of Being Born was “born” out of both women’s birth experiences and continues to be viewed by women across the country.
Because both women felt like there was still so much that was yet to be discussed, they created More Business of Being Born. This follow-up documentary, which will be released as a four part DVD series, continues to explore the modern maternity care system in an attempt to educate and empower women to have the type of birth they desire.
If you’ll be in the Los Angeles area this week, consider attending the premiere of More Business of Being Born on November 9th at Laemmle’s Royal Theatre. The public will have an opportunity to screen the second episode of the four-part documentary which is entitled Special Deliveries: Celebrity Mother’s Talk Straight on Birth. There will also be a post-show Q&A with Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein.
A variety of ticket options are available including General Admission, Deluxe, and VIP tickets. Deluxe and VIP packages include the complete DVD set and the VIP package includes an exclusive meet and greet with Ricki and Abby. Tickets can be purchased on the website.
