I don’t know about other parts of the country but I saw 89 degrees on my car thermometer over the weekend here in Sunny Southern Cali! It may be spring but we’re heading towards summer lovin’ over here on the west coast.
I have that nice Caribbean color to my skin that provides some protection from those harmful UVA/UVB rays that elicit the coveted golden tan that keeps these shops thriving. My son, however, was not so fortunate and has acquired my husband’s fair skin. On our honeymoon my husband resembled a lobster after one afternoon snorkeling in the South Pacific. All this to say, I have been concerned about protecting my son from the scorching rays of our desert sun.
Fortunately, there is a company committed to providing top-of-the line products designed to protect children under 5 from the sun. Baby Banz, a company with Australian roots, is known for it’s wrap around sunglasses with neoprene band. My little munchkin was sent a pair of Baby Banz and a UV sun hat to try out. I really wish I had known about Baby Banz when he was younger so I could have started protecting his eyes and skin early on. The lenses on Baby Banz block out the entire spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays. (Check out their UV facts sheet and rigorous product testing standards for more information)
Did you know?
Children under 9 lack filters in the eye to block out UV light
Placing a lens that does not provide adequate protection from the suns UVA, UVB, and UVC rays can actually cause MORE damage. Why? The iris opens behind tinted lenses allowing more UV light to penetrate (and potentially damage) the eye.
Baby Banz are comfortable, durable, and fun to wear. If it can be taken apart or broken, my little munchkin will succeed. That’s why I’m glad Baby Banz are comprised of polycarbonate material which renders these sunglasses shatterproof. The neoprene band is stretchy, soft, and adjustable so these sunglasses stay put! If you’ve waited until your baby is a little older you may want to check out these guidelines on getting your child accustomed to wearing sunglasses. We probably started my son a little late because he doesn’t keep anything on very long from the hat on his head to the socks on his feet, but these sunglasses do manage to stay on if my son is not too fussy.
I love tots with covered tops! The UV sun hat my little munchkin was sent is all kinds of cute. And guess what? They offer UPF protection of 50+ and their cotton/polyester blend allows air in. No more sweaty heads and undone dos!
Check out Baby Banz and their entire array of protective products including some fab winter gear. Baby/Kid Banz and the UV sun hat retail for $15 each but you can save $5 if you purchase them together.
