Tomorrow, stores will stay open late in cities all over the country for the third annual Fashion’s Night Out. Created by American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York, Fashion’s Night Out aims “to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping.” Whether you’re in NYC, LA, or somewhere in between, the evening’s events will offer food, discounts, prizes, goody bags, and more. The night also marks the beginning of Fashion Week, a week-long event showcasing the latest trends in fashion design.
Earlier this year, Maybelline introduced Scene on the Runway,a collection designed and used by makeup artist Charlotte Willer backstage during fashion shows. There are 4 “looks,” each created for a Maybelline New York spokes model. Each of the four collections (Rosy Dew, Silver Diva, Golden Midnight, and Ruby Kissed Emerald) are available for under $25 at Walmart.
I was challenged to re-create the Silver Diva look. This look emphasizes the eyes and includes the following four products:
Volum’ Express Falsies Flared Washable in Blackest Black ($4.97)
Unstoppable Eyeliner in Pewter ($4.97)
Superstay 24 Color in So Pearly Pink ($7.94)
Expertwear Eyeshadow Quads in Mocha Motion ($4.97)
While I don’t often have time these days, I really enjoy experimenting with makeup. I’ve received some impromptu lessons on makeup application over the years and I found that the line was very easy to use. Along with providing guidance on how to achieve the look, the makeup itself offers tips. For example, the eyeshadow, which is divided into four colors, has the location etched right into the shadow so you know where it goes (i.e. base, crease, etc.). I applied the eye makeup with the sponge brushes provided, however, I highly recommend using real makeup brushes as they help achieve a smoother, richer look. I absolutely adore the eyeliner and find it even easier to apply than using my angled brush. It was super easy to apply it straight and I even applied some on my lower lid (something I rarely ever attempt). The lipcolor is actually a two-step product, designed to wear for the entire day. It’s definitely more natural in color than I typically wear, but I like the overall look, which was definitely focused on bringing out my eyes. The mascara wears well but isn’t the easiest to smooth on. Be sure to avoid using too much as you could end up having clumped mascara on your lashes.
Overall, I really like how easy the line is to use. You don’t have to be a makeup artist to achieve runway looks! Check out additional runway looks on Maybelline!
