We are a family that travels. We traveled as a married couple without children and now take different kinds of trips as a family. It used to be easy to sneak away to Santa Barbara or San Diego for the weekend when it was just the two of us. These days our vacations and even staycations require a bit more planning. But having children does not preclude us from taking trips. We’ve taken road trips, flown across the country, camped, hiked, and trekked all over New York City with two small children.
Do you know what I don’t like about travel? The preparation…the packing…the getting there! Earlier this year, the zipper on my suitcase (which I’ve likely had for over 10 years) broke…at the airport…on my way home from Orlando. While this was unfortunate, I did have a lot of good years with that particular piece of luggage. We went to Europe and back 4 times, cruised the Caribbean, and much much more. I knew that when I returned home I would have to think about investing in some new luggage. I had no idea where to begin…so I put it off…and continued to put it off for months. I used my husband’s suitcase until I finally found a piece I liked. After some serious searching, I finally found a Briggs & Riley piece I had been eying. As I mentioned last week, the company recently launched their new BRX line, which is geared towards the adventure traveler. I’ve already used the piece I purchased twice in the last 2 weeks, and over the weekend I’ll share more about why I think it truly is perfect for a wide variety of traveler.
I have to admit that because the line is so new, it’s somewhat difficult to find. I started my shopping challenge at REI, the outdoor store notable for carrying all-things adventure-related. I headed straight to their luggage section, which was actually larger than I expected for an outdoor retailer. I found Eagle Creek, Osprey, Camelbak, Gregory, Kelty, and REI’s line of luggage. Since I couldn’t readily spot the BRX line, I asked a man who works at the store to do a little research to see if another REI carried the line. As far as he could tell, REI stores in our area (Southern California) did not carry Briggs & Riley travelware.
I then proceeded to call the 4 luggage stores in my area that currently carry Briggs & Riley. Only one of the stores carried the BRX line, so I headed over in hopes of finding the Explore Upright bag. Success! They had quite the selection, which I would expect at a luggage store. I purchased the Explore Upright bag in Ocean and was on my way.
