Goofy’s Sky School Opens At Disney California Adventure Park

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

With the re-opening of Star Tours-The Adventures Continue (now in 3D) and the debut of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, summer at The Disneyland Resort is shaping up to be lively, musical, and magical.  Disney California Adventure Park, in particular, is in the process of undergoing a host of changes, some of which include a brand new design for the entrance and the transformation of Sunshine Plaza into Buena Vista Street.  Upon entering, guests will be taken back to Los Angeles in the 20’s, as it was when Walt Disney first arrived.

As part of the park’s transformation, Goofy’s Sky School opened this past week at Disney California Adventure Park. Inspired by the classic Goofy “how-to” short films of the ’40s and ’50s and the cartoon short Goofy’s Glider, guests are taken on an exciting, zany flying lesson filled with dips, twists, and turns. Goofy’s Sky School was formerly known as Mulholland Madness which closed in the fall of 2010. The ride was re-themed as part of the transformation of Paradise Pier to resemble a seaside amusement park of the 1930s.

Once guests board their “airplane,” they’re taken 3 stories up in the air for a crash course lesson in flying.  The high-speed coaster features “sharp turns, steep drops, and sudden stops.” I enjoyed the thrill of not knowing which way we were going to turn and holding on for each dip.  While exciting, the ride is not so intense that I wasn’t able to snap a few photos.  The ride itself is really completed by the “Goofy” (hehe) billboards with flying how-to instructions guests encounter along the way.  The views over the park are beautiful and I imagine it might be neat to ride at night.

Adults and children over 42 inches can ride, provided they are free from medical conditions that could be aggravated by the sudden stops, turns, and dips and expectant mothers are advised against riding.  Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult, but parents can obtain a rider switch pass to avoid waiting in line twice.

Summers at the resort can be crowded so I recommend making use of the FASTPASS option, available for Goofy’s Sky School in order to make the most of your time.

As part of Paradise Pier‘s transformation, the park also debuted three new dining locations…Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, Paradise Garden Grill, and Bayside Brews.  Stay tuned…this foodie has the 411 on these venues which happen to serve some of the best food in the resort.
