Music is an integral part of our family. My husband sings and I played the piano for many years. Both of my children enjoy music, particularly my daughter who literally dances every time she hears a song (even if it’s simply on television). With reality shows like American Idol, many children and young adults enjoy exploring their own musical talent.
Awhile back, we reviewed a guitar from First Act Discovery, a line of beginning instruments specifically for children. First Act, the parent company, recently introduced Voice Rockrz, a microphone designed for children that features voice-changing effects. The wireless microphone, which is available in pink and blue, includes a ring and bracelet which, when tapped, change a child’s voice. Effects include Robot-Riffic, Echo-Tastic, and Hi-Note. The microphone is also MP3 compatible which makes it possible for children to sing along to their favorite songs.
Pretend play is important for a child’s development and I love watching my children play. I have to allow myself to sit back as my daughter tries over and over again to figure out one of her brother’s toys…or smile as my son pretends to be one of his favorite trains. Both of my children have enjoyed singing their hearts out with the microphone although my son definitely plays with it more than my daughter. He thinks it’s fun and silly to change his voice and likes to tap the microphone to the accessories. Getting the microphone to change effects requires a bit of dexterity which is the reason is geared towards children 4-10. The only thing I’m not crazy about with regards to the microphone is the skeleton design.
Voice Rockrz is currently available exclusively for a limited time in San Diego Toys R Us stores. This fall, the microphone will be available nationwide.
