With Mother’s Day approximately one month away, I’m thinking about how to celebrate the women in my life who I admire for their example to me as a mom. Personally, I prefer an experience over a tangible item when it comes to gift-giving and I know many women who share the sentiment. As a mom, I have very little time to myself. To give another mother a few hours to relax and rejuvenate is priceless.
Last week, I was invited to spend a few hours at the Aquaterra Spa. I, like many women, treasure that personal, alone time. The spa, which is located at the Surf & Sand Resort, offers ocean views and personalized spa treatments by experienced practitioners. Like many resort-based spas, guests and visitors can book treatments which feature native botanicals and the natural essences of ocean and earth.
I opted for a 25 minute back, neck, and shoulder massage and a 25 minute organic sugar glow scrub. After checking in and receiving an adorable pair of sandals, I headed into the women’s lounge to don my robe and relax with some hot tea and cookies. The atmosphere is quiet and tranquil and there are a few sit down areas to read or simply relax before your treatment. You can also enjoy the steam room or jacuzzi in between treatments.
The therapists are friendly and professional and I appreciated the attention to personal detail such as areas of concern and preferred pressure during my massage. During the massage, the therapist used the spa’s exclusive aromatherapy oil blend which was designed to aid in stress-reduction and revitalization. If you’re staying at the resort, you can opt for an in-room massage for an additional fee of $35.
The scrub was a phenomenal experience and one I highly recommend. I like to think of it like a full body exfoliation. A blend of raw sugar and orange blossom oil is massaged on and then rinsed off with their Vichy Shower, which features six high effusion showerheads that rain warm water over you. The scrub works to remove the skin’s dry surface layer to promote cell rejuvenation and a healthy glow.
I truly received just a glimpse of all the spa has to offer. Along with your traditional spa treatments such as massages and facials, the Aquaterra Spa offers in-room aromatic bath rituals, mud body wraps, hot stone massages, and much more.
While treatments are moderately priced, the spa is currently offering several spring packages. Specifically, the Spa + Splashes Package includes a 50 minute signature massage or facial, a hand massage with Peppermint-Lemon body butter, and lunch at Splashes Restaurant for $135 ($10 more on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays). The oceanfront restaurant offers spectacular views and Mediterranean-inspired American Coastal Cuisine.
