As a long-term contact lens wearer, I’ve experienced dryness and irritation as a result of extended wear. I currently use daily wear soft contact lenses which I replace every month or so. For many years, I’ve been using a plain saline solution to insert my contacts because I have very sensitive eyes. The multipurpose solution I’ve been using burns too much to use it for more than just cleaning and disinfecting. The result is that I have to purchase and use two different types of solutions on a regular basis. I’ve spent the last week using Bausch + Lomb’s new multipurpose contact lens solution called Biotrue. Formulated to match the pH of the tears in your eyes, Biotrue works like your eyes to make lens wear more comfortable. The solution possess a lubricant naturally found in your eyes and keeps beneficial tear proteins active.
Because my eyes are quite sensitive, I was hesitant to insert my contacts without rinsing the solution off with saline. The first few times I simply used the solution to clean and disinfect the lenses. I eventually started putting my contact lenses on without rinsing the solution off and did not notice any burning. Apart from the irritation I have traditionally experienced immediately following insertion of the lenses, I also suffer from dry eyes. I was interested to see if my eyes felt more hydrated after several days of use. After about a day or two of use, I noticed that my contacts were not sticky in the evenings (which is when I spend the most time on the computer).
One of the most important qualities I look for in a contact lens solution is it’s ability to disinfect. Despite the fact that I’ve been wearing contact lenses for over 15 years, I’ve had less than a handful of eye infections. I’m diligent about daily cleaning and proper hygiene with regards to the lenses to avoid eye infections. Biotrue combines a dual disinfection system including a pH that matches healthy tears and protein management, to provide unsurpassed disinfection. The solution is also effective at removing protein deposits that can blur vision and cause discomfort. Here is a quick video describing my experience with Biotrue:
Biotrue is available at retailers nationwide. A 10 ounce bottle retails for $9.99.
I conducted this review while participating in a Mom Central Consulting blog tour on behalf of Bausch + Lomb Biotrue. I received a Biotrue sample and a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
