Frigidaire Launches the Kids’ Cooking Academy

One my resolutions for 2011 is to cook most of our meals and limit the number of times we eat out.  Not only is eating out expensive, it’s very difficult to control the types of ingredients, the quality of the food, and the portion sizes offered at dining establishments.

My son observed both my husband and I cooking and baking in the kitchen from infancy.  He loves “helping” with the foods we’re preparing and I am delighted that he is interested.  Today, Frigidaire launched the Kids’ Cooking Academy, an online resource offering daily tips, recipes, and how-to videos to inspire families to cook together.  Each day you visit, Frigidaire will donate $1 to Save the Children to provide nutritious snacks and promote healthier lifestyles for impoverished children in the US.  Your visit also enters you to win the daily giveaway, a kid’s apron set, and the grand prize of a Frigidaire Gallery Double Oven Range.  Today’s tip is to “Build kids’ kitchen vocabularies.” My son knows the basics of the various utensils and measuring cups we use, but everyday he’s learning something new, as he’s very inquisitive.

I’m excited to see how the site develops.  At present, there are four recipes, created by Chef Mary Sue Milliken which are designed to be palatable to children. Chef Milliken is the co-chef/owner of the Border Grill restaurants in Santa Monica, downtown Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, as well as the Border Grill Truck.
