Several months ago, I had an opportunity to test drive a Chevrolet Camaro. It was one of those surreal moments in my life. I kept thinking to myself…am I really driving a Camaro? I was nervous…excited…confident.
Last week, a representative I’ve worked with on several occasions offered me the opportunity to test drive a Camaro for a week (ish). To be honest, my first response was no. I kept thinking…what if I broke it? Fortunately, the week is almost up and it’s definitely not broken. In fact, the only problem I’ve encountered is keeping my husband away from it.
To say the car is awesome is an understatement. It’s pretty…and powerful…and full of luxury features like OnStar, Bluetooth Wireless Technology, and heated driver/passenger seats. It even has Remote Vehicle Start (which means I can turn the car on without being inside of it).
I want to talk a little bit about OnStar because it’s a service that offers information, safety, and security…all at the touch of a button. Want to get from point A to point B? Find the nearest gas station? Inquire about local restaurants? Simply call on an OnStar rep who will send turn-by-turn directions to your car. Lost car? Locked out? Have an emergency? Just push the “On*” button. The service also allows you to make calls, hands-free.
For all practical purposes, the Camaro is a sports car. It comes with either a V6 or V8 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission which means it can accelerate very quickly (from what I’ve read…of course…hehe!). I don’t know much about Horespower or Torque so I won’t go into that…but let’s just say the car is fast and powerful.
I’m not super savvy on gas mileage…but I did read that the Camaro gets 18 MPG with city driving and 29 MPG for highway driving. According to my husband, that is just average.
As far as actually driving the car…it was easier to drive than I thought it would be. It packs a lot of power, which is most noticeable during acceleration. It stops on a dime and feels very sturdy. While it’s only a bit longer than my Sedan, it feels very different to drive this car. One thing that takes some getting used to is the small peripheral view through the back and side windows. And because I’m short, I have to really stretch myself to see all the way down the front of the car.
This car is a dream car. Yes…it includes LATCH for car seat installation. But it’s not a car I’d own with small kids. In fact, my son came home from school on Friday and saw it sitting in our driveway. We decided to go out to dinner and he asked daddy if we could take “mommy’s shiny blue car.” The answer was obviously no. And I’ve never seen a little boy so upset about a car (I guess this is a prelude to what’s up and coming). At least he has good taste, right?
Here is a little video we shot the first time I drove a Camaro:
It’s just about time to return the pretty blue Camaro back to it’s owners. But, before it makes it’s way back home, do you have any questions I can answer about the car?
No compensation was received for this post. I was offered the opportunity to test drive the Camaro for a week to share my experiences.

My son used to have a Camaro–a blue one too. He sold it a couple years ago and bought a pickup, which was a sad day for me because I loved that car!! I got to drive it a few times, and yes…they do have lots of power! We took it on a 1,200-mile road trip from our home in South Dakota to Seattle, and that was quite an experience–driving it through the mountain passes during winter. It was the end of November. I rode in the back seat all the way, and there’s not a lot of room back there, is there?! Great car though–enjoyed your post!

How hard is it going to be to return it. It would be so fun to have a car that is only used during “date nights”. Do not wait for retirement, just get it after the kids are in college and make sure they do not take it for a joy ride!

OMG! I am so jealous! The new Camaro is my DREAM car. I should say, my dream car sans kids. I would die to drive it for a week and I think I’d try to find a way to get all three kids in there.

NICE opportunity!! My hubby would LOVE to be able to drive the Camero if even for just one week.
You look so adorable behind the wheel. I totally understand about the long front end. When I first got my car, I wasn’t used to such a long front end either and had to get used to driving mine. My hubby got a really cool device for the garage that let me know how far to pull forward so I wouldn’t hit the front wall. 🙂
