When I was young (er) and single, I bought a new outfit almost every week (indulgent?). This was a little treat to myself as a hard-working professional. Fast forward 5 years and I can’t remember the last time I purchased a wardrobe piece that wasn’t titled “maternity” or “nursing.” That is, until a couple of weeks ago when I went on a shopping adventure at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.
I consider myself a pretty savvy shopper. I use coupons and buy most things on sale. I research and comparison shop. I also do some off price shopping. Why pay more…right?
The last time I shopped at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, I was 9 months pregnant! I found some amazing deals for my son and daughter. This time, it was all about me!
I have my mom’s taste in clothes, shoes, handbags, and jewelry. I’ve been known to pick out the most expensive pair of jeans in a store. When I used to shop for myself, I would “label” shop. I like high-end designers like True Religion, Ugg, and Maxx Studio (to name a few).
At Marshalls and T.J. Maxx, you’ll find this season’s fashions for a fraction of the cost. Marshalls [and T.J. Maxx] offer quality, current season, on-trend designer pieces without those designer price tags. With weekly shipments bringing in 10,000 new items to each store, you’ll find the selection abundant. Take a peek at what I found on this latest shopping trip:
So what did I end up with? I picked up the Essentials by Milano dress (ARV $20) with a pair of Kenneth Cole sandals (ARV $30). For $50 I have a gorgeous spring outfit! Best of all the items are current and on par with fashion trends going on right now.
So what are the trends this spring?
1. Choose pinks, corals, tans, and bluish hues for shoes, handbags, tops, and dresses. Nautical blues and whites are popular this season.
2. Accents and details like lace, eyelets, and ruffles create a feminine look. Here are some ideas to create a pretty, polished look:
Pair a flowing blouses and light-weight tops with pencil or tulip skirts. Draped or cascading cardigans are the perfect light layer over a strapless sundress. Pair a printed kimono with designer denim for a soft weekend outfit. Or, show off your casual, girly side with a tissue tee and a pair of paper bag-style waist shorts.
3. Get casual with cargo-style shorts and capris. Throw a boyfriend style button-down over a dress or with a pair of cargos for a laid back weekend.
The only thing I’d change about my shopping experience at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls is the ability to search for items online and then purchase them at my local store. The items in each store vary tremendously and the stores have quick turnarounds on inventory so I realize this is not feasible. But I can dream, right?
I did not receive compensation for this post. Gift cards were supplied to both stores to facilitate this experience.

LOVE those sandals. I “need” (cough) to go shopping for the Bosch event next week. I am a huge fan of TJ Maxx. There is one close to my house and one about 2 miles from my office. I used to go there weekly prekids. Now? Not so much! 😉
Looking forward to meeting you next week in Scottsdale!
