Claim Jumper Foods

Posted by Caryn Bailey 6 Comments

I remember our weekly trips to Claim Jumper as a single adult in our church youth group.  The casual, family friendly restaurant offers American-style cuisine and boasts generous portions.  As you know, I’m not one that regularly indulges in convenience foods.  But every now and then, it’s nice to take a break from my Betty Crocker duties.

Many restaurants offer versions of their foods to customers in grocery and retail locations.  Claim Jumper Foods offers frozen appetizers, pot pies, dinners, family meals and deserts.  The line includes  traditional Western favorites and classic American recipes. I picked up a few of their frozen pies to try, since we’ve had family over to help us (I didn’t bribe them with chocolate…promise!).  I decided to try out the Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Silk Pie, and Key Lime Pie.

My first impression of the pies was that they were perfectly crafted.  They look as good as any pie you’d find at a restaurant…at their restaurants. The company offers pies you bake (which can take up to an hour) and “thaw and serve” pies.  I like the convenience of a “thaw and serve” pie but it can take up to 90 minutes at room temperature and up to 2 1/2 hours in the refrigerator.  I suppose it could take this long to make the pie from scratch.  Since there is no labor involved, you would just need to prepare ahead of time so that the pie is ready to serve when you need it.

Of the three pies I tasted, I preferred the Chocolate Silk and Pumpkin (but that’s because I don’t care for Key Lime Pie in general).  I was a little surprised at how sweet both cream pies were.  I typically find cream pies to be less sweet than their fruit counterparts.  The pies are also very rich, so a small slice satisfied my sweet (and chocolate) craving.  While I wouldn’t typically purchase these, I think they’d be great for having company over because they’re very pretty big and serve many people.

One thing of note, their pies are relatively high in calories and fat (as most desserts are).  However, I definitely think you could cut their portion size in half and still be satisfied (thereby cutting calories and fat).  Claim Jumper Foods offers an entire line of fruit and cream pies.  They can be found in the freezer section of your grocery store and each retails for approximately $3.00.

I did not receive compensation for this post.  I did receive coupons for product sampling, courtesy of the company, in order to facilitate my review.

I have bought the cream pies of Claim Jumpers so I trusted the product again and purchased the frozen lattice peach pie and was totally disappointed. I could not taste the peaches it was just totally sweet no flavor at all I shared a piece witha neighbor and she said the same thing it was like just eating sugary syrup. I will not purchase fruit pies again, sorry but you need to fix this. Peach is one of my favorit kind.

Hi, I have just baked the claim jumper lattice peach pie. It came out beautiful. The only thing I want to know is you say to wrap the edges of the pie crust with strips of foil. How can I do this with out burning my fingers.? There must be a way because you directed me to do so. I did it but now have buns on my fingers. I tried using gloves but it was too hard to get it fastened around the pie. aHELP !!!!
