I glanced over my calendar last week and quickly realized that the first day of Spring is this week. We had a historically wet winter, and while we’ve managed to get outside, I’m relieved that those cold, rainy days are behind us. We’re less than one month away from Easter and with the weather warming up, we plan to spend lots of time outside. Easter is one of those holidays rooted in tradition, and one of our longstanding favorite ways to celebrate is at Irvine Park Railroad during Easter Eggstravaganza.
Irvine Park is one of the oldest parks in Orange County and the first regional park in the area. At 160-acres, it boasts architecture by the late Frederick Eley and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park itself is a beautiful, spacious, and serene, situated among a grove of heritage Oak and Sycamore trees. The park’s varied landscape and rolling hills provide a home for local wildlife. Guests can bike, hike, ride horses, or enjoy a paddle boat ride on the lake.
Celebrate Easter at Irvine Park Railroad
Each season, Irvine Park Railroad hosts events to coincide with notable holidays. As we head into Spring, here are 7 ways to celebrate Easter at Irvine Park Railroad.
- Meet the Easter Bunny: Kids can meet and take a photo with the Easter Bunny during Eggstravaganza. The cost is $10 and includes a complimentary photo taken by the staff at Irvine Park Railroad.
- Enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt: Always a highlight of our visit, Irvine Park Railroad’s Easter Egg Hunts are age-specific and include a variety of fun treats and prizes. Remember to bring an Easter basket and sign up early in the day for your preferred egg hunt time.
- Take an Easter Photo: Irvine Park offers a number of natural backdrops for photos. Additionally, there will be Easter picture stands set up for themed photos.
- Take a Hay Ride: This festive ride is a great way to see Irvine Park from a unique perspective.
- Decorate a Spring Cookie: Kids can explore their creativity at the Cookie Decorating Station. Each season, Irvine Park Railroad offers themed cookies for purchase and includes frosting and sprinkles for decorating. Remember to take Easter photos before your kids decorate cookies since the activity can be messy.
- Play the Easter Carnival Games: Irvine Park Railroad is one of the only locations where my kids play carnival games because every kid wins! This year they will feature an Egg Basket Toss as part of Eggstravaganza.
- Ride the Historic Train: The perfect way to see Irvine Park is on the train! Ride the train at the end of your day when you’ve completed all of the Easter activities and are ready for a bit of downtime.
Easter Eggstravaganza begins Saturday, March 25th, 2017 and runs through Saturday, April 15th, 2017. Entrance is free, however activities range in price from 1-2 tickets (each ticket is $5). Irvine Park requires an entrance fee of $3.00 per vehicle on weekdays and $5.00 on weekends. Irvine Park Railroad is open daily at 10 am.
Remember to enjoy all of the other activities at Irvine Regional Park including Wheel Fun Rentals bike and paddle boat rentals, pony rides, and the OC Zoo.
