7 Things You Should Have In Your Gym Bag

I had every excuse imaginable for postponing my workouts. Sometimes it was busyness, other times I rationalized my lack of activity by giving myself more credit for getting in my daily 10,000 steps than I really deserved. And then one day my jeans felt tighter and I realized that my inactivity couldn’t be hidden any longer.

Despite the fact that I actually enjoy a good workout, getting to the gym can be a tremendous effort, which is why I’ve started carving out time in my schedule to move my body. There are a number of ways to inspire motivation and commit to a fitness routine, but accountability yields the best results. When someone you know gently encourages you to keep active, or better yet works out with you, consistency becomes the norm.

You can also get a head start on your fitness routine by having your gym bag packed and in your car, which means you’ll have one less excuse for skipping Zumba. I often go straight from working out my body to working out my mind, so I like to keep a few key items in my gym bag to ensure that I’m clean, dry, and fresh without pause.

Gym Bag Essentials

7 Things You Should Have In Your Gym Bag

Workout Clothes and Shoes: I like to have a set of workout clothes, socks, a sports bra, and a pair of tennis shoes in my gym bag for those impromptu moments in my schedule that allow for a workout.

Water Bottle: Most gyms provide sufficient access to water and replenishing drinks, but I like to keep a reusable water bottle in my gym bag to ensure I’m hydrated before, during and after my workouts.

NEW Always Wipes 2016

Panty Liners & Wipes: Throughout the month, Always Liners and Wipes are my go-to for feeling shower fresh all day long. As a woman, it isn’t uncommon for me to feel the need for a mid-day shower, irrespective of my workouts. But my busy, on-the-go schedule doesn’t always allow for that, which is why I’m loving Always Wipes. The brand’s latest design features individually wrapped wipes that I can sneak into my purse to freshen up throughout the day. I also find that wearing a thin panty liner like Always Sheer Dailies helps absorb moisture and odor for that fresh feeling all day long. I particularly like the Always brand because they are so thin, I forget that I’m even wearing a panty liner.

Earbuds/Headphones: Unless I’m taking a fitness class, I can’t typically workout without music. The distraction helps pass the time and makes for a more enjoyable workout. Keep a pair in your gym bag for unexpected moments in your schedule to sneak in a workout.

iPhone/iPod: Download your favorite music to your smart phone or iPod for a workout playlist that fits your style.

Runkeeper App

Fitness/Activity Tracker: One of the ways I track my progress and consistency is through an activity tracker. Sync it with your favorite app to set goals and make a fitness plan.

Snack: If you don’t have time for a full meal after your workout, you can curb that post-burn hunger with a healthy bar or a piece of fruit. I also like to keep a few snacks on-hand to avoid running through the drive-thru for a less-than-healthy meal.

Workout Essentials

What is in your gym bag? I’d love to hear about what fitness essentials help keep you on task with your workouts.
