No compensation was received for this post. As part of my relationship with Spa Week, I received a skin care treatment which facilitated the writing of this post.
It used to feel indulgent to take a few hours of my day to unwind at a local spa with cucumber-infused water, a plush robe, and a 50 minute relaxation treatment. But as a busy, working mom, I’ve come to recognize the value in taking some time to care for myself. Those early years as a new mom can take their toll and I remember many sleepless nights, less than nutritious meals on-the-go, and weeks without exercise. The reality is that when I’m rested, relaxed, and rejuvenated, I can more effectively and efficiently take care of my kids, my home, and my work without feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or irritable.
If you enjoy getting a massage, facial, or other relaxation treatment, what are the challenges? Is it time? Cost? Access? In less than one month, Spa Week will once again make the spa experience affordable and accessible by offering $50 treatments at select locations across the country. It’s been 10 years since the inception of Spa Week, founded by Cheryl Reid who’s passion now makes it feasible for anyone to incorporate the spa experience into their overall health and wellness lifestyle. What I personally love about this bi-annual event is the fact that each of the $50 treatments offered are full-service treatments offered at reputable, spas and wellness locations across the country.
Last week, I spent a couple of hours with Lynne, an esthetician based in Los Angeles who recently opened her own skin care studio, goddesslynneBODYandSKIN. Centrally located in Westwood near UCLA, Lynne draws from her 15 years of experience to customize each facial. During Spa Week, she will offer 2 incredible $50 treatments: A Dermalogica BioActive Peel & Free Aftercare Kit and a Winter Recovery Facial & Brow Shaping. As part of my relationship with Spa Week, I was treated to a preview of Lynne’s skin care services, so I opted for the Winter Recovery Facial & Brow Shaping.
The studio itself is located within the Phenix Salon Suites, which houses a variety of independent salon professionals offering services that include skin care, massage, nail services, and hair styling. Lynne’s skin care studio is easy to locate and I found her unique way of communicating to her clients through a personalized sign on her front door, clever and personable. Once I walked into her vibrant, colorful studio, I forgot that I was inside of a larger complex. The room is quiet, serene, and comfortable.
Lynne began the skin care treatment by evaluating my skin and we chatted about my concerns and my goals. I got comfy in the bed and began cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating my skin. I have had a number of facials over the years, and this was the first one I actually dozed off because I was so relaxed (she provides a neck/shoulder massage while the products are taking effect on the skin). My skin, although not wrought with concerns, is sensitive and I have had painful, uncomfortable experiences. Lynne was gentle and asked me periodically how I was feeling which made me feel very comfortable.
The type of products used during a facial are also important to me and I really appreciated that Lynne only uses Dermalogica and DermaQuest, which are two of the most effective, reputable skin care lines on the market. During my treatment, Lynne and I discussed facial peels and talked a bit about Dermalogica’s new BioActive Peel, an innovative new way to target fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and acne without scarring or damaging the skin. Lynne will offer this revolutionary skin care treatment during Spa Week for $50 which is an incredible deal.
As part of my treatment, Lynne also shaped my eyebrows. I typically see the same esthetician for my eyebrows so it was a bit of a risk for me to trust them with someone new. Lynne and I discussed the look I wanted and even taught me how to perform upkeep in between services. Eyebrow shaping alone can cost $20 or more, so the inclusion of this service makes the $50 Spa Week deal a steal!
After my facial, I walked out feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. My skin felt amazing and it was one of those rare days when I didn’t feel uncomfortable going out in public without makeup. Had it not been for Spa Week, I may not have had the opportunity to reap the benefits of Lynne’s excellent skin care services. I appreciate that Spa Week has partnered with independent professionals like Lynne to showcase their talent while providing access to quality, high-end treatments for just $50.
