5 Ways to Ring in the New Year With Kids

These days, I can barely stay awake until midnight when I’m up at 6 am each day. So the thought of subjecting my kids to the midnight New Year’s tradition is something I have avoided for the past several years. Instead, we celebrate a New York New Year’s and stay up just a tad bit later than normal in order to avoid throwing their bedtime schedules off.

Sparkler

Whether you’re looking to celebrate with your significant other once the kids have gone to sleep, or you don’t want the kids to miss out on New Year’s because they simply can’t stay awake, here are 5 ways to ring in the New Year with kids!

Netflix New Year's Eve Countdowns

1. Celebrate on your time-schedule. West Coasters have the option of ringing in the New Year with the traditional Times Square ball drop as early as 9 pm. But if you live elsewhere, you can always opt for one of 6 on-demand countdown specials on Netflix. You decide when your kids go to bed and they decide who they want to celebrate with!

2. DIY Noisemakers. If you’re looking for a creative way to ring in the new year, you’ll find a ton of easy (and surprisingly adorable) noisemaker crafts DIY Noisemakers.

3. Make it a Game Night. My kids can’t usually stay up late enough to justify an expensive evening out. We absolutely love our Family Game Nights, and if you’d like a unique spin on this tradition, check out these festive New Year’s Eve Party Games from Tiny Prints!

4. Festive Treats & Sparkly Drinks. Your New Year’s Eve Menu doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Kid-friendly appetizers, mocktails and a special dessert will get your kids excited about the start of a new year.

5. Don’t forget the music. Kids love to sing and dance, and this is the perfect way to get those wiggles out so they’ll fall asleep come midnight. Check out the selection of New Year’s Eve Playlists on Pinterest!

Whether you’re planning to brave the midnight countdown, or ring in a New York New Year’s, be sure to check out all of the Netflix New Year’s Eve Countdowns on Netflix including Oona and Baba of Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, the Project MC2 girls, King Julien, and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
