Reduce wrinkles? You need to sleep. That was my mom’s response to my laments over the fine lines I’ve been seeing lately. I have mostly managed to escape my 30s with youthful looking skin thanks to my ethnicity and genetics. But as I approach 40, I can see my laugh and frown lines becoming more prominent, most evident in between my brows and along my forehead.
The skin care industry has never been more vibrant, with products and treatments ranging from inexpensive to unapproachable. And while fine lines and wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process, there is much that can be done when it comes to lifestyle, preventive products, and even geography to help reduce wrinkles.
How You Can Reduce Wrinkles
According to research conducted by RoC®Skincare in partnership with Sperling’s Best Places, where you live could positively or adversely affect the health of your skin, resulting in premature aging. I took a quick look at the list and breathed a sigh of relief. Some areas of Southern California rank in the 25th+ spots which means we’re less wrinkle-prone than cities like Philadelphia. I found it intriguing to learn just how impactful lifestyle, occupation and environment are on the skin. Congestion, air quality, smoking, higher temperatures, and climates with less precipitation all adversely affect the health of your skin. If you have a moment, I encourage you to visit view the results of the RoC® Wrinkle Ranking to see where your city ranks and how those dynamics can contribute to premature aging.
For the past week, I’ve been using RoC® Skincare’s Deep Wrinkle Serum to reduce wrinkles and combat the lines in between my eyebrows and on my forehead. The serum is a combination of pure RoC® Retinol, magnesium, zinc, and copper designed to visibly reduce deep wrinkles in 12 weeks. Once you’ve cleansed your face, simply apply the serum to the face and neck once or twice a day to help decrease the appearance of fine lines and reduce wrinkles. While the package states that tingling is common, I have yet to notice any discomfort. While you are using Retinol, it is important to protect your skin from the sun by using sunscreen daily.
It goes without saying that prevention is preferred over treatment, so today I’m sharing 5 Ways To Reduce Wrinkles, many of which are preventive.
- Avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen every single day. The risks posed by the sun’s harmful rays are well-documented, including skin cancer. Avoid exposing your skin to the sun’s harmful rays during the peak ours of 11 am and 4 pm and apply an all-natural sunscreen every single day.
- Stay hydrated. Your skin requires water to maintain its elasticity. Aim to drink 8 eight-ounce glasses of water every single day to reduce wrinkles.
- Moisturize. Invest in a good moisturizer and use it day and night to help your skin maintain its elasticity.
- Sleep. The human body requires rest to rebuild cells, including skin cells. Aim for 7-9 hours every single night.
- Don’t smoke. There are so many reasons not to smoke, but wrinkles is high up there on the list. If you smoke, aspire to quit.
