This is part of a compensated campaign with Little Remedies.
With Earth Month just a few days away, I was inspired to reflect on what we’re doing to conserve resources and reduce our carbon footprint. It is admittedly easier now than it was 5 years ago to purchase “greener” “cleaner” products to put in and on our bodies. But in some ways we are simply checking boxes rather than regularly evaluating our lifestyle to see what we can do to further our efforts. Many of those lifestyle changes have become second nature to us, which in a way, is exactly the message I want to convey to those looking to make a first step. It may seem difficult at first…but very soon those small steps become part of an overall way of living.
When I think about living more sustainably, my mind doesn’t automatically revert to the waste our family is producing. Our landfills are overflowing and our oceans are becoming more and more polluted (a recent article surrounding the disappearance of Flight MH370 described the challenges investigators are facing as they continue to sift through all of the trash that they’re finding in the Indian Ocean). We’re heard the phrase “reduce, reuse, recycle.” Here are my best tips for reducing waste:
1. Invest in a few eco-friendly lunch box systems and commit to packing a waste-free lunch by bringing reusable flatware, napkins, and cups.
2. Before throwing away an item, evaluate whether or not it can be donated or up-cycled for another purpose.
3. Look for household products that utilize minimal packaging. For example, we purchase Seventh Generation’s Concentrated Laundry Detergent which utilizes minimal packaging made from recycled plastic.
4. Use a programmable thermostat and set it for lower temperatures during the winter/higher temperatures in the summer while away for the day at work and school.
5. Store several reusable grocery bags in your trunk so that when you’re out shopping, you won’t need to use the plastic bags (which are currently being faded out in cities like Los Angeles)
If you are looking for more ways to reduce waste at home, on-the-go, at work, at school, and in your community, I highly recommend visiting EPA.Gov for an extensive list of tips and suggestions.
For the last 4 months, I’ve maintained a partnership with Little Remedies, showcasing their safe, all-natural products for children. As a minimalist, I appreciate that products like their Soothing Cough Syrup are free from dyes, artificial flavors/colors, or alcohol. Designed to calm sore throats and coughs, this syrup is unique in that it contains elderberry which may support the immune system.
Little Remedies’ philosophy is that “Less is More” and is very much in line with how we strive to live our lives…minimally with as little impact on the environment as possible.

I’d really like to try their Honey Elixir! My poor daughter has been coughing almost nonstop for the last 48 hours from allergies. The Honey Elixir sounds like something that would coat her throat and help her to sleep better at night!
