5 Time-Saving Laundry Tips

Unlike many chores that can be checked off a list, laundry often feels like the task I can never quite complete. With two very active (and often messy) kids in the house, it isn’t uncommon for me to wash a load every single day.  While laundry isn’t necessarily one of the more physically challenging chores, it is the most frequent and often takes quite a bit of time. If I delay even a couple of days, the task seems overwhelming, which is why I have a routine I strive to stick to each week.

Laundry Room

1. Keep on top of it. The easiest way to eliminate laundry chaos is to wash frequently. I strive to complete a load every single day in order to maintain some sense of control over my laundry.

2. Keep it sorted.  Invest in an inexpensive divided hamper to cut back and even eliminate the time spent sorting clothes. Walmart has a stylish model by Whitmor that will help you keep your lights and darks separate.

3. Put it away.  When my kids were much younger and going through several outfits per day, I was lucky if I could keep up with simply washing and drying their clothes. I’d piling them on a chair or leave them in the laundry basket, only to find myself wasting time looking for items or ironing pieces that had wrinkled. If you can stay on top of the laundry, you’ll find it easier and less time-consuming to simply put it away right after it has dried.

4. Treat stains immediately. The sooner you attempt to remove a stain, the more likely it is that you’ll succeed. Print out a Stain Removal Tip Sheet and post it in your laundry room for quick, easy reference.

Tide Pods5. Use an all-in-one laundry detergent. If you don’t have a washing machine that auto-dispenses detergent, you can easily eliminate measuring along with the use of multiple products by using Tide Pods.  Each self-enclosed pod contains a detergent, a stain remover and a brightener. With Tide Pods, there is no guessing when it comes to precise measurement. You can reduce or even eliminate the number of laundry products purchased and used, saving time and even storage space. Tide Pods work in standard and HE machines (simply place it in the drum along with clothing) and run your load.  In addition to the scented varieties, Tide offers a Free & Gentle variety which is free from dyes, perfumes, and phosphates.
