One of my favorite memories of my dad are those days we’d visit our local Hispanic Grocery Store for Alfajor, a macaroon coconut candy bar and Jamoncillo, a delicious Mexican fudge made with milk and sugar. We’d also pick up bottles of Malta (a carbonated malt beverage), Coco Rico (a coconut flavored soda), and plantain chips. These delicious Mexican delicacies could usually only be found at stores like Northgate Market, which offers a tailored shopping experience for the Latino community including fresh and prepared foods, personal services and quality merchandise.
Last week, Northgate Markets opened their sixth location in Anaheim, perfectly timed to celebrate their 36th anniversary. Originating with the first market off Anaheim Boulevard in 1980, this beautiful, spacious location off of Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim features a coffee bar, a juice bar with agua frescas, a Tortilleria, fresh seafood including a ceviche bar, an expansive selection of tropical and organic produce, grass-fred meats, a panaderia with fresh pan dulce, and Grab-and-Go prepared foods.
With 40 additional locations in Southern California, Northgate Market is your one-stop shop for groceries, prepared meals, a quick snack or juice, a made in-house cake, and so much more.
While Northgate Market does cater to the Latino community, anyone can shop at these stores. I found all of my favorites including organics, gluten-free items, and allergy-friendly foods like almond milk. If you’ve never visited one of their stores, here are 5 reasons to shop at Northgate Market.
- The prices are extremely competitive
- You’ll find an expansive selection of organics and better-for-you items
- Meal planning is effortless
- The selection of rare, exotic, and ethnic foods and products is larger than most stores in the area
- You won’t have to shop multiple stores to find the foods and products you love
Can you guess what my favorite department is?
Family-owned and Orange County-based, Northgate Gonzalez Markets provide a tailored shopping experience for the Hispanic community. Apart from the market feel to the store, I personally love that so many of the items are made in-house, including the baked goods, tortillas, fresh juices and Mexican sandwiches. The seafood and meats are brought in fresh daily and the guacamole along with a host of other food items can be made-to-order. The word that kept going through my mind as I perused the store aisles was fresh. The bakery, in particular smells amazing!!! I’ll have you know that at the end of my tour and shopping trip, I managed to find all of the foods my dad and I used to eat including Jamoncillo and Alfajor which I introduced to my kids.
The new Northgate Market location in Anaheim is located at 2030 E. Lincoln Ave. Anaheim, CA 92086. Here are a few other locations in Orange County that may be more convenient!
