5-Minute Bagel and Lox Recipe

Most mornings don’t allow for the time needed to create the types of gourmet breakfasts we enjoy on weekends and holidays, so I often stick to quick, healthy meal options that will provide the fuel we need to start the day off right. While my kids often opt for cereal and milk, I tend to lean towards a more substantial meal like granola and greek yogurt. As a vegetarian, I find that this combination of Greek Yogurt and granola can pack much in the way of protein and other nutrients, particularly if the granola contains nuts and flax seeds. Greek yogurt tends to be thicker, creamier, and lower in sugar, making it one of my go-to foods for breakfast, dips, and even baking.

Greek Cream Cheese

If you enjoy Greek Yogurt, you’ll love Green Mountain Farm’s first-ever Greek Cream Cheese. With 4 times the amount of protein and 1/2 the fat of conventional cream cheese, this Greek Cream Cheese is a creamy, flavorful alternative containing live and active cultures like you would find in Greek Yogurt. This unique blend of Greek yogurt and cream cheese features milk and cream sourced from local dairy farmers and is available in 8 and 12-ounce tubs for spreading and 8-ounce bars for cooking and baking. Conventional cream cheese is admittedly a food that satisfies the palate without providing much in the way of nutrition. Green Mountain Farm’s new Greek Cream Cheese is a tasty alternative you can feel good about eating.

I often use cream cheese in baked dishes for frostings and fillings, so I’m excited about using this Greek Cream Cheese in place of conventional cream cheese. If you visit Franklin Foods‘ website, you can download their Greek Cream Cheese Recipe Book for sweet and savory meal ideas. I’ve been using this cream cheese in dips and as a spread for toast and bagels and I really like how creamy it is.

Bagel and Lox Ingredients

Bagel and Lox Recipe

If you’re looking for a quick, nutritious breakfast meal idea with a gourmet twist, try this easy Bagel and Lox recipe:

  • 1 Bagel, sliced in half and toasted (I prefer whole grain varieties)
  • 2-3 T Greek Cream Cheese
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1-2 slices of red onion
  • 2 slices of smoked salmon
  • Fresh dill

Combine Greek Cream Cheese with garlic. Spread a thick layer of Greek Cream Cheese on the bottom half of the bagel. Layer tomatoes, sliced red onion and salmon. Top with fresh dill. Serve immediately.

This is a quick, easy, breakfast idea that can be put together in minutes. Not only is it incredibly flavorful, it is packed with whole grains, protein, live and active cultures and omega-3 fats. I can’t imagine a healthier or more delicious way to get my morning started!

With the New Year just a few days away, I know I’m looking to get a healthy start by decreasing the fat and sugar in my diet while incorporating “power” foods that provide sufficient protein and other nutrients. Greek Cream Cheese is a delicious alternative to conventional cream cheese and is versatile enough to be consumed for meals or snacks.

You can find Green Mountain Farms’ Greek Cream Cheese in the refrigerated section at your local Walmart adjacent to conventional cream cheese. At present, Walmart stocks the bars and the tubs in regular and strawberry varieties.
