Christmas … is not an eternal event at all, but a piece of one’s home that one carries in one’s heart – Freya Stark
I still remember the feelings of excitement, joy, and anticipation I experienced as a child on the eve before Christmas. The holidays were a big deal in our family, and rightly so. And yet, I never came away without truly knowing in my heart what the reason for the season was. Perhaps that is why I still find immense joy…greater joy…in gifting and giving rather than receiving.
Stockings, as simple as they are, were the highlight of our annual one-gift rule on Christmas Eve. Perhaps it was because we couldn’t visually or tactually guess what was inside (as much as we tried). Everything from socks and toothbrushes to handheld video games and jewelry could be found inside our neatly hung stockings.
So what is the ideal stocking stuffer? In many ways, it depends on who you are shopping for (their interests) and what your budget is. I recently turned to Sears for inspiration, in search of trendy stocking stuffer ideas. You may remember that I recently shared some awesome gift ideas presented in the Holiday Celebrations 2012 eguide, created in partnership with Collective Bias, Getting Gorgeous, and Party Bluprints Inc. In the guide, you’ll find gift ideas, recipes, entertaining tips, fashion and beauty advice, discounts and more.
searsStyle.com, which showcases stories, trends, and fashions to fit your personal style, is featured in the guide and served as my inspiration for my stocking stuffer shopping excursion. My goal was to shop for my mother and two friends, and while I won’t necessarily be giving them stockings, the concept of a smaller, more affordable gift that is meaningful guided my purchases.
Because my mother spends some time outdoors each day as part of her commute to work, I decided to gift her with a few stylish, winter accessories. Right now, Sears is having an incredible sale on hats, gloves, and scarves, so I decided to pick up a matching set to place in her “stocking.”
The chenille scarf and gloves set I found from Fownes was on sale for 50% off which is incredible. I love the elegant way the set was designed and how soft the fabric feels. The total price? $30 plus tax!
Speaking of winter, my next stocking stuffer gift idea is certain to warm your heart. Right now, Sears is having a holiday sale with 50% off holiday mugs.
I picked up this adorable and festive mug for just $4.49. I was hoping to find a bag of coffee and some holiday treats to go along with the mug, but my particular store did not carry these items. (Of note, they are available online and at certain locations). I managed to find a 3 pack of apple cider which I felt complimented the mug nicely. The total price? $9 plus tax!
What woman doesn’t like makeup? I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the Beauty department at my local Sears.
I found some of my favorite brands including Burt’s Bees, Yes to Carrots, and e.l.f. During this time of year, you’ll find holiday displays with gift ideas throughout the store. As soon as I walked into the beauty section, I found 3 e.l.f. makeup sets, unique to the store.
For just $11 (plus tax) I was able to pick up a 3-piece eyeliner set, a 3-piece lip gloss set, and a 32-piece eyeshadow set. This was perhaps my most impressive find!
I was pleasantly surprised at how many different gift ideas I could come up with while shopping at Sears. Because the store is all-encompassing (from beauty and fashion to electronics and appliances), you could likely shop for each person on your list. Each section (for the most part) includes some holiday items (i.e. socks, pajamas, kids clothing/toys, etc.) and the store offers a Christmas Shop for trees, decor, gift wrap, and more.
As I was preparing to pay, one of the sales associates asked me if I would like to join Shop Your Way. This free rewards program offers 10 points for every dollar spent. Now that I have an account, I can just enter my number when I shop online or in-stores and begin earning points while I shop. Every 1,000 points equals $1 and can be redeemed at any time.
Right now, you can save 20% off clothing and accessories by printing out this exclusive discount coupon from searsStyle.
