The new year is all about making changes, and this year our family has committed to living a healthier lifestyle. Both of our kids are playing soccer, and Jason and I have been running at the gym at least 3 times a week. Each week I’m testing out new recipes to bring my family the healthiest, tastiest food without having to spend a lot of money. Additionally, we’ve picked up a few supplements including probiotics and vitamins, to keep us healthy during this winter season.
Along with supplements and vitamins, this is the time when many people endeavor on a cleanse. I know that I personally indulged over the holidays and a cleanse was one way I “reset.” If you purchase vitamins and supplements regularly, then you know that the cost can add up which is why I’m excited to tell you about Whole Food’s upcoming sale. I’m an avid Whole Foods shopper, so I was surprised that I had no idea that local stores hold a 3 Day Whole Body Sale once a year. EVERYTHING in the Whole Body Section will be 25% off January 24th-26th, 2014.
Since we’re the in the middle of a very active flu season, I thought I’d share some of my favorite supplements, all of which will be on sale this coming weekend.
Supplements To Support Immune Health
One of our first lines of defense against illness is a daily probiotic. Check out Bio-K+’s line of probiotics made from either fermented milk, rice, or GMO-free soy.
Every year, my husband and I get a flu shot to protect ourselves and those around us from the virus. Since my children are not able to get the vaccine, we keep a supply of Boiron Oscillococcinum which is a natural remedy for flu symptoms such as fever, chills, body aches, headache and fatigue.
Looking for additional cold and flu prevention products and remedies? Try Ricola Lozenges, Source Naturals Wellness Formula and Gaia Herbs Black Elderberry Syrup.
Supplements To Support Fitness and Weight Management
My husband is passionate about fitness, but very often he doesn’t have time to eat as many calories as he burns. Many of the conventional protein powders available are filled with additives and chemicals that are not necessary and potentially harmful. Garden of Life offers a line of vegan, GMO-free raw protein powders to support your nutritional and fitness needs. Vega also offers a line of plant-based products designed to support fitness goals.
Supplements to Cleanse and Detox
I have to admit that I was on the fence about the idea of “cleansing” prior to trying one. While I still maintain that it’s likely not necessary (our body does a great job of ridding itself of toxins), I think it can be a great way to “reset” and kick start healthy eating habits, provided the cleanse is safe and meets the minimum calorie requirements your body needs. Right now, my local store has ton of products to help you do a cleanse on your own (i.e. Cayenne Pepper, Lemon Juice, etc.) or you can check out the 365 7 Day Quick Cleanse.
We have had great success with supplements, particularly probiotics, vitamins, and herbal remedies such as dark honey. To stock up, visit your local store (Southern California, Las Vegas, and Hawaii stores only) during the Whole Body Sale at Whole Foods Market. To find a store near you, visit their list online.
